About The Golden Eagle
Castle Street sits within easy reach of Chester's historic core and the River Dee, and it's here that The Golden Eagle combines a working pub with hotel rooms. The setting puts guests close to the city walls and the general run of landmarks that make Chester worth a wander, while the street itself has a good scattering of pubs, restaurants and other eateries nearby.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, free WiFi and a few unexpected touches, including record players in some rooms. Downstairs, the bar serves classic pub food given a creative edge alongside a solid drinks selection, and breakfast is included and well regarded. The garden offers additional space to sit outside, and the hotel also handles weddings and meetings, with concierge and business services on hand.
Free on-site parking removes one of the usual headaches of a city stay, and pets are welcome too. Staff are consistently described as attentive and the atmosphere as genuinely warm rather than corporate, and with a golf course and further entertainment nearby, it works equally well as a base for exploring Chester or simply settling in for the evening.

What guests say
The Golden Eagle is exactly what you hope for when you visit a traditional English pub. From the moment you arrive, there’s a really warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable straight away. The setting is beautiful too, tucked away in the countryside and surrounded by lovely scenery, which makes it the perfect place to stop after a walk or simply relax with friends and family. Inside, the pub has plenty of character with that cosy, old-world charm you expect from a proper village pub. It feels authentic rather than overly modernised, which adds to the whole experience. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which always makes a big difference when visiting somewhere new. The food and drinks were excellent. The menu offers classic pub favourites but with a creative twist, and everything we tried was well presented and full of flavour. It’s clear that care goes into both the cooking and the overall dining experience. The selection of drinks is also great, whether you’re after a pint, a glass of wine, or something a bit different. One thing I really liked is that it’s also very dog-friendly, which makes it a great spot if you’re out exploring the countryside with your four-legged companion. The outdoor space is also fantastic, with plenty of seating and a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy a drink in the fresh air. Overall, The Golden Eagle is a fantastic pub that combines great food, friendly service, and a lovely countryside setting. Definitely somewhere I’d recommend and will happily return to.

Exceeded expectations. The decor, music, food and atmosphere were all excellent. A simple menu on a Tuesday steak or burger, both were well prepared with nice sides. The food was very good value and for a Tuesday night it was comfortably busy but not overcrowded.

Lovely room and pub, booked last minute with free parking and late check out. The downside for me was the noise level, didn’t get to sleep until 4am due to noise in the corridor, other rooms and the passage way down the side of the hotel. Would recommend just not on a weekend or if you’re needing rest

What a lovely little pub! We’d never been to Chester so went for the weekend and we stayed the night here. Comfiest bed we’ve ever stayed in! The location is ideal, staff really accommodating and friendly and the price included breakfast which I thought was very reasonable, the breakfast was lovely too! Would stay here again 😊
