Off-grid farm camping near Goodwood, around six miles north of Chichester, no hookups
About Newhouse Farm Wild Camping
Newhouse Farm Wild Camping occupies a ten-acre grass field on a working farm at East Dean, within the Goodwood estate and around six miles north of Chichester, inside the South Downs National Park. It's licensed camping on private land rather than true wild camping in the legal sense, but deliberately run to feel like it: an off-grid field surrounded by ancient woodland, with far-reaching views over the surrounding farmland and very little infrastructure beyond the basics. The seventy-six non-electric grass pitches take tents, roof tents, campervans and motorhomes, plus a handful of simple landpods for those without kit of their own.
Facilities run to composting and standard toilets, drinking water and a wash-up station—no electric hookup, no showers, no WiFi. Fire pits are available to bring or hire, and dogs are welcome on leads. The farm sits within an International Dark Sky Reserve with quiet hours enforced from ten at night, making it one of the better spots in the area for stargazing rather than family entertainment; there's no shop or playground on site. It opens seasonally from Easter to September's end and suits campers after a genuinely basic, low-impact stay. Goodwood's racecourse, motor circuit and Festival of Speed hillclimb are all within a few minutes, making it a useful, if spartan, base for the estate's events calendar as well as for walkers heading up onto the Downs.

What visitors say
One of the most relaxed camping locations available. Very rustic in the best way possible (no shower, no electricity - all made clear at point of booking). I cannot overstate how stunning the views are and how well kept the campsite is. Seems to attract polite and friendly guests, dogs welcomed, everyone very respectful. Very much left alone to enjoy everything (perfect for us), but Rachel has always been hospitable, attentive, and charming as and when we bump into one another. She also does firewood drops if you need, and we find the bags to be very good value. We have been coming since 2024 and hope to make our trips more frequent. Lovely walks moments away. Highly recommend if you value privacy, wildlife, and switching off.

The owner could not have been more welcoming, kind and helpful. Stunning location, secluded, quiet and calm. No frills, but exactly as described. I will definitely return

Great campsite on the south downs way. Staff very kind and welcoming. Ability to buy logs etc for firepit. Drinking water. Portaloos were clean. Pub 2 miles away and in a dark sky area so can see the stars. Would highly recommend
