About Old Man of Coniston Campsite
Perched beneath the towering Old Man of Coniston with sweeping views over the fells and Coniston Water, this pop-up campsite is stripped-back, no-frills camping at its best. It's a walker's dream base – countless trails fan out from the doorstep, including the classic ascent of the Old Man itself – though watersports fans and families will find plenty to occupy them around the lake too. Campfires and barbecues are welcome (raised off the ground), and there's a good pub with a beer garden about 20 minutes' walk away if you'd rather let someone else do the cooking.
Facilities are deliberately minimal: portable loos and a waste skip, plus cold running water for washing up, but no showers, electric hook-ups or drinking water on site. Two vehicles are allowed per pitch; overflow parking is in the monitored Walna Scar or Old Man car parks nearby (pay via app on arrival). It's rugged, peaceful and scenically spectacular – perfect if you're happy to rough it a little in exchange for front-row mountain drama.
