Middle Deck

Cornwall

Fowey's working harbour and steep-sided estuary give the town a character quite different from typical Cornish seaside resorts. The river changes with the light and the tides, and Middle Deck sits right at the centre of it all—a ground-floor apartment within The Square Rig, a converted riverside building where you have the run of the whole place to yourself. A pair of French doors from both the main bedroom and the living space open onto a balcony overlooking the water, and that's where you'll likely spend time simply watching the boats and the light shift across the estuary.

The apartment holds four people across two bedrooms: one with a king-size bed and one with two singles. A walk-in shower, kitchen with a full range of appliances including a dishwasher, and an open-plan living and dining area make up the rest. Electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are all provided. The building also has shared use of a laundry room, a games room with table tennis and darts, and kayaks and a small rowing boat—useful if you want to explore from the water rather than from the shore.

The town itself is compact and walkable: pubs, restaurants, galleries and independent shops line the streets and quays within a few minutes on foot. The River Fowey itself has literary connections to both Daphne du Maurier and Kenneth Grahame, and if you're here in August you'll catch the Royal Regatta. Beaches and coastal paths are nearby, and the estuary regularly draws seals, dolphins and a range of seabirds. Note that smoking is not permitted in the apartment.
