Photo: Penmorvah Manor Hotel

The Hayloft is a one-bedroom apartment converted from a barn at Penmorvah Manor, a country estate near Falmouth. You arrive up 18 steps to an open-plan living space with a kitchen, dining area and sitting room with Freeview TV. The bedroom holds a double bed; the bathroom is an ensuite with a shower cubicle and toilet. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included, and the property is yours alone for the duration of your stay.

The apartment sits within six acres of gardens and wooded grounds shared with other converted buildings on the estate. You get a courtyard patio with garden furniture, and there's a children's play area if you're bringing younger guests. Parking is on site. The setting suits walkers, cyclists and anyone wanting a quiet base—the coast is within reach, as are villages like Budock Water with its thatched pub and small shops, and the subtropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan. Falmouth itself is a short drive away. No smoking inside.

Great location, beautiful views. Rooms were very dated but were fine for a few nights. Breakfast was cold, ended up buying breakfast out. 1 particular member of staff was very rude, not sure if it was because we were a young couple, but told us off for sitting in the wrong place for breakfast (not told where you can/cannot sit) and then left us out when going round asking if anyone would like a pot of tea. We also asked if we could sit outside, was told no as the seats were being put away (8pm). Felt like we were being judged, we are a young couple who wanted a weekend away, we were in bed for 9pm every night but felt treated differently by this one particular staff member.

Fantastic hotel with really attentive staff. Food was great and a must for anyone staying in the area.

Booked in for a bank holiday break away, spoke at length to the owner when booking. Arrived to be told no restaurant or bar facilities over the bank holiday for any nights we were staying. Extremely disappointed and wouldn’t have booked if we’d known this. Room was cold, damp, musty, broken shower hose and broken lower shower trim. Toilet banged on the wall, bed was that cold it felt damp. Restaurant also cold. Breakfast fruit options seemed to be tinned fruit cocktail - no fresh fruit available. No fruit juice out on the second day. Set in beautiful grounds to explore. Having to find last minute options for food and drinks after breakfast until dinner was less than ideal and a real inconvenience to what was meant to a quiet relaxing few days in a manor hotel. Would not recommend and will not be returning.

We arrived for a Christmas dinner with our club. The room first given had dirty footprints through it, we were moved to a larger room which was ok , bathroom was dated with black mould around the base of the shower. We went down to the bar and had to keep looking for someone to serve us, lager was warm and not great. In the evening we had our Christmas doo in a separate room, no background music or crackers on the table and was dressed very sparse , the food was very second rate , service was poor especially from the older server . Then they announced that the bar was closing and we had to order last drinks even though we were residents for the evening. Breakfast was awful and we had to keep going to find the staff to get extra toast, tea etc . Certainly couldn’t recommend this hotel which is dated and 2nd rate, and we certainly won’t be returning.
