Brook House 2 is a spacious cottage converted from a former farmhouse, standing beside a stream in the quiet village of Bassenthwaite. It suits small families, couples or friends wanting a self-contained base for exploring the Lake District, with enough bathrooms that nobody queues and ground floor living space so there's room to spread out. The cottage has character—chunky oak beams, a feature brick fireplace with wood burner, and substantial sofas in a living room with a smart TV. One dog stays free.
Downstairs holds a living room, a kitchen/dining room with a full range of appliances, a bedroom with a double bed, and a shower room. Upstairs, the second bedroom has a double and a single bed, with an ensuite shower room and a separate bathroom with a bath and shower. Electricity, wifi, bed linen, towels and initial logs are included. There's private parking for one car, a second space on the road outside, an enclosed patio with seating, and a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer (a small charge applies). A travel cot and highchair are available on request.
The village sits within reach of Lake District walks of varying difficulty, quieter lakes and mountains, and busier tourist areas. A pub serving local ales and meals is a couple of minutes' walk away. All guests must be fully mobile, as fire exit requirements mean the property is not suitable for anyone needing walking assistance.

Fantastic place to stay whilst in the lake district as there are great facilities, the owner is lovely and cheery. The main attraction is the homely feeling of the cottage, we have stayed there 10 years in a row and it will never get old.

Booked Brookhouse 1 for an 80th birthday treat for my dad. My family all got together for the surprise. What a fabulous Christmas we all had. The cottage was outstanding. The new kitchen had everything my husband needed to cook an amazing Christmas dinner. Having 3 toilets was very handy for the amount of people! The log burner was a joy, with an endless supply of wood. The bedrooms were very well laid out with comfy beds. Alison had very kindly left a bottle of bucks fizz in the fridge, which was a lovely touch. In fact nothing was too much for her. Checking if there was anything we needed, whenever we saw her.

Perfect location to base for exploring the lake district. Idyllic surroundings and views. Brookhouse 1 has a beautiful garden to sit in at the front and overlooks the brook which is safe for kids to play in. Cottages well kitted out with all necessary facilities. This has been a firm family favourite since my kids were small and is now with my grandchildren. Highly recommended.
