The Corn Mill

Cumberland

View on Google Maps

Branthwaite is a quiet village in the shadow of the Lake District, close enough to Loweswater and Crummock Water for easy day trips, yet far enough from the crowds. The Corn Mill stands here overlooking the River Marron, an 18th-century building with original beams and exposed stone that still shows traces of its working past. Cockermouth is four miles away if you want restaurants and shops; the pub is five minutes' walk.

The cottage is yours alone, set up on two floors. Downstairs is an open-plan living and dining space with a woodburner, and a kitchen with a full range of appliances including a dishwasher and washing machine. Upstairs there are two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with two singles—and a bathroom with a bath and shower. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are all included. There's garden furniture and a barbecue outside, and parking on site. One dog is welcome.

The garden has drops and direct access to the river, so take care if you have young children. The stairs are steep and narrow. No smoking inside.
