About Irton House Farm

Tucked beside Bassenthwaite Lake, Irton House Farm offers something increasingly rare: a working farm site where watery panoramas unfold right from your pitch. Sheep and chickens graze around the paddock and orchard pitches—some on hardstanding, others spread across grass—while Bassenthwaite itself steals the show. Those views are lovely, though a few guests note the facilities can feel a touch tired in places. Still, there's a heated shower block, bike wash, and a games room with pool and table tennis for rainy afternoons.

Getting out is straightforward: Buttermere, Derwentwater and Crummock Water all lie within half an hour, and local paths suit walkers and cyclists keen to explore beyond the one lake. The Solway coast adds a seaside option if you fancy salt air over freshwater calm. Bassenthwaite village sits five minutes away for post-hike pints, or push on to Cockermouth for a wider choice of food and pubs.

Just stayed at Irton house Farm Campsite In my camper van and had a really good stay. So I can’t comment on the rooms they offer. The views around the campsite are absolutely stunning and it’s a lovely peaceful place to relax. The staff were all really friendly and welcoming which always makes a difference when you arrive. The facilities were great too — especially the showers which were powerful and properly warm after a long day exploring. We also liked that a free fire pit is included with your pitch, and you can buy wood onsite either by card or cash which is really handy. Pitches are a great size as well so there’s plenty of room to set up comfortably without feeling cramped. Only small downside, and this is me being picky, is there’s no hot drinks or light snacks available onsite. However, there is a town only around 10 minutes away so it’s not really a major issue. Overall a brilliant campsite with amazing scenery and a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely one we’d happily return to.

We booked for our summer holiday because we saw that the family had accessible cottages with disabled parking. We were delighted to see that they also had shower chairs, and an adapted kitchen. There's also a riser-recliner armchair and riser single bed available if required. We were so pleased to enjoy our wonderful holiday at Irton house farm. Although the weather was wet we managed to dodge the showers most of the time. Lindsay and Kim made it possible for us to go on holiday. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful farm. I have told all the members of my local carers support group so that they can consider taking their loved ones there for a holiday. In addition, we have already put a deposit down on our holiday for next year.
