Booked this amazing gem randomly by looking at the photos. Didn't know the history but then googled it. Turns out we got room 12 and absolutely loved it. Lovely old calm feeling while there. Unfortunately we only slept there and didn't get time to take it all in. Arrived back to the room at 4am and was gone for 11am. 100% going to book again and spend more time at the property. The room was absolutely amazing and my partner loved it.

The hotel has some good bits and some not so good bits. The location is handy for a short walk into town and the price was ok compared to the chain hotels in town. The communal spaces of the hotel are quaint and fit with the feel of the place and create an atmosphere some past era. The service is also very friendly and there's a nice pub adjoining the hotel. On the downside, the furniture in the rooms is a bit run down (the four-poster was very creaky), and a hotch-potch rather than being in any way complimentary. The shower ran cold after 5 mins and there room had to be shuttered in darkness as there were tables and chairs immediately outside.

Stay was terrible the rooms are ok just are a bit outdated and need a bit of refurbishing. The service was terrible staff were constantly being rude , no heating the first nights stay as the radiator was broke , single pane glass windows that are smashed , cleaner walked into my room while I was sleeping with my baby and woke me up , no heated water , shower had no hot water and when it did it only lasted 3-5mins max the staff did nothing about it and turned on the shower and waited until the water was hot then said see hot water but they did listen to the problem . The location is great though I think if it was a couple nights stay it would be perfect . Food was amazing.

I stayed at The Georgian House Hotel for the first time last night, and it’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left. From the moment you walk in, you realise this isn’t a gineric pub/hotel - it has real personality. Not the kind that’s been designed in, but the kind that builds up over the years. Every corner feels lived-in, every room slightly different, and the whole place carries that rare sense of character you just don’t find in chains. It feels authentic, warm, and unmistakably its own thing. After a long day working, the food was exactly what was needed - and then some. Proper, homemade pub food done exceptionally well. Generous portions, rich flavour, and clearly made with care and attention. You can tell this is a kitchen that takes ppride in what it serves. The bar itself has a great atmosphere too - good ales, relaxed energy, and that easy sense of community (I made at least three new friends) that makes you want to stay for “just one more.” The room was something else entirely. I slept in a four-poster bed for the first time in my life, which felt oddly special - like stepping into another era for the night. It perfectly summed up the place: unique, full of charm, and completely unlike anywhere else. You’re not just staying in a room; you’re staying somewhere with a story. And then breakfast the next morning - honestly, exceptional. A full English done properly is a rare thing these days, and this was one of the best I’ve had. Everything cooked exactly as it should be, high-quality ingredients, no shortcuts. It set me up perfectly for the day and rounded off the stay in the best possible way. What really defines the place, though, is the people. The staff were consistently warm, attentive, and completely genuine. Nothing felt forced or scripted. It was just natural, thoughtful hospitality. That was made especialy clear the morning I left. An elderly lady staying there couldn’t get her car to start, which could have been quite distressing. The landlady (Karen?) stepped in immediately - calm, practical, and kind. She arranged help, stayed with her, and made sure everything was sorted. No fuss, no sense of inconvenience - just a quiet determination to make sure a guest was okay. She even went so far as to provide free refreshments while the lady waited. Would you get this at a chain hotel? I think not… That moment said everything. This isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a place with heart, with character, and with people who genuinely care. There’s so much personality here that it’s almost impossible to describe. You really do have to experience it. I’ll be back. And next time, it won’t just be for work.
