About Stubbs Bridge Woodland

Tucked into woodland just outside Wootton Fitzpaine, Stubbs Bridge Woodland is an adults-only retreat that's picked up recognition as runner-up for Best Glamping Site in South West England 2025. The pitch here is a single oak ensuite shepherd's hut, complete with its own facilities and a warm welcome for four-legged friends, making it a proper hideaway for couples seeking peace among the trees.

Open year-round, it's a straightforward, no-frills setup – no WiFi, just birdsong and the rustle of leaves. Showers, toilets and drinking water are on hand, but the real draw is the seclusion and that lovely Dorset woodland setting. Perfect if you want somewhere genuinely quiet to explore the county from, though you'll need to be comfortable with a back-to-basics vibe.

What visitors say

Ian Bradley

We actually stayed in a caravan on the Stubbs Bridge site, not in the Shepard's Huts. So my review is for our stay in said caravan. My sister and I, were looking for a peaceful place to stay and we couldn't have found a better place to stay! The caravan was situated just behind the main house and was of an older variety. We entered the caravan and were instantly transported back to the 1980s, and memories of childhood holidays. It was perfect. With a complimentary bottle of wine on the table, and all the basics for cooking and sleeping, catered for, we soon settled in. Do take your own toilet paper though, as this was strangely missing. As for the location, it was stunning. Surrounded by meadows, farm buildings nearly, loads of space and peace and quiet. We saw pheasants, Swallows diving about, just loads of British wildlife in abundance. I like a bit of stargazing and the location was ideal for observing the night sky, which was unobstructed by light pollution. We even managed to see the Milky Way in all its glory - a stunning sight! In summary, the caravan was perfect for our needs, a cheap place to stay, clean and tidy, not far from places to shop, visit the beach, or just enjoy the beautiful surroundings. But take some warm clothes, as even in June, we awoke to chilly temperatures - the joy of a British Summer!?
