Couples and small families will find The Old Boathouse suits a relaxed stay with access to Portland's coastal attractions. The property sleeps four across two double bedrooms and one bathroom, with the whole place to yourselves. Downstairs, an open-plan living and dining area leads through patio doors to a small garden with decked seating, while the kitchen is equipped for proper cooking. Upstairs, both bedrooms are doubles accessed from one side only. A private hot tub sits on the patio, and parking for two cars is included.
The location puts you within walking distance of a pub and restaurant, with the beach two miles away. From here you can explore Portland's castle and museums, venture along the Chesil Beach toward Lyme Regis or Lulworth Cove, or head to Weymouth for sailing, windsurfing and family attractions. The area draws serious walkers and bird watchers—the Portland Bird Observatory is nearby—and those keen on water sports. Essentials like heating, electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are covered. Note that access involves steep spiral stairs, which may not suit everyone with mobility concerns, and the property is non-smoking.

Stunning cottage in an amazing location. Cottage is well equipped, clean and very comfortable with panoramic views across the English channel. Hot tub is an added bonus watching the stars at night. It is 0.9 km from Portland Bill lighthouse, the Lobster Pot café and the coastal path. A short hop in the car to the main town and 20 minutes drive to Weymouth. Be aware there is a narrow spiral staircase to access the bedrooms so we took small suitcases which easily went up but a big suitcase won't. But that shouldn't put you off as the hosts have left clean carrier bags to decant your clothes into for the journey up into the bedrooms which have ample wardrobe and drawers space. An ideal place to chill out.

I’m currently at the Old Boat House (Wednesday 3rd Sept 2025) and can honestly say it is an amazing cottage. I am disabled with mobility issues but managed the spiral staircase ok so able bodied people shouldn’t struggle at all. The cottage has everything you need there, it’s literally like a home from home. There’s a hot tub, barbecue, sun loungers, table and chairs in the outside area too. We came for a week here and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we will hopefully return here again next year. Highly recommend The Old Boat House, definitely a 10/10 from me.

We had a blissful week staying here. Very easy to find, excellent ample parking. Clear instructions received from Mandy about how to gain access to the property and multiple sets of keys. Excellent accommodation. Spotlessly clean. Everything provided that you could have wished for. The kitchen has plenty of cooking utensils / pots / crockery to make self-catering here a breeze. The beds were very comfy and the bedrooms beautifully finished. The staircase is narrow as well as spiral but this wasn’t an issue for us. We were unable to carry cases up the stairs so meant we unpacked downstairs and carried clothing up, but this is only a minor inconvenience for what was a lovely holiday. The outside area has stunning views to the lighthouse and around Portland Bill. Plenty of boats to spot and the waves hitting the rocks on a blustery day. The thoughtful addition of a telescope and binoculars kept the kids entertained for hours! The hot tub really makes this little place a proper gem. It is clean and well maintained. It was lovely and hot when we arrived and we used it multiple times to watch the sun go down after a long day walking and exploring. It’s also lovely in the dark to stare at the stars with minimal light pollution. The lighthouse is in easy walking distance and great to visit. As is the charming Lobster Pot restaurant. There are plenty of shops within a five minute drive, and both a Tesco and Lidl within 15 minutes. We had a really lovely holiday and hope to visit again soon!

I was very lucky with a weather. The place is fantastic. Tick all boxes. Quiet, with fabulous views from the lounge, garden and the hot tub. There is everything you need in the house. And the Portland's hiking routes gives you hours of walk. One of the best domestic holidays ever.
