Butterhole Farmhouse comes fully equipped for a week away. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, and full-size fridge and freezer. Heating is oil central, electricity and Wi-Fi are included, and initial logs for the woodburner are provided. Bed linen and towels come as standard. There is parking for three cars on site and a bike store for anyone planning to explore further afield.
The layout spreads across two floors. Downstairs has a living room and dining room, both with Freeview Smart TVs, plus a study and kitchen. The woodburner sits in the dining room. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms: two kingsize beds and a twin room with single beds. One kingsize has an ensuite shower room; a family bathroom with bath and shower serves the other bedrooms. The property sleeps six and is yours for the duration—no other guests share the space. One dog can stay free of charge, though it must be kept on a lead in this sheep farming country. An enclosed garden with sitting-out area and furniture provides outdoor space; note there is also a shared front lawn.
The farmhouse sits within Mabie Forest, a few miles from Dumfries. Walking trails, the 7stanes mountain biking routes, and Mabie Farm Park—where you can see alpacas, llamas and belted Galloways—are all nearby. No smoking indoors.

Amazing place set in an elevated position, within walking distance of Mabie House Hotel and forest. Cottage is very well equipped and peaceful. A fantastic escape from a busy lifestyle, made even better when you can also bring your dog. Will definitely return..

We actually stayed in the Farmhouse side of this semi. It is located at the end of what becomes a fairly rough road after you pass the Mabie House Hotel, which is a good target for the satnav. The house itself is well equipped and even though we had a couple of problems (the owner replaced a faulty oven but was unable to get the plumber to fix the ensuite) we enjoyed our stay. The house has three bedrooms, with two bathrooms, the dining area is fine for six and the kitchen is adequate but the sitting area is too small. The grounds around are great and you have the forest on your doorstep, with a great farmshop (Kilnford) nearby where you can buy all you need to feed the family.
