About Mercure Dumfries Cargenholm House
A restaurant and bar sit at the heart of Mercure Dumfries Cargenholm House, giving guests a proper place to eat and drink without leaving the grounds, alongside breakfast served each morning to set up a day exploring the region. Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and drinks laid on, with family rooms available for those travelling in a group, and free WiFi throughout.
The building itself is a Georgian house on the edge of Dumfries, spread across two floors with 66 rooms in total. Free on-site parking makes it a straightforward base for driving into Galloway Forest Park or further afield, and an electric vehicle charge point is available for those travelling that way. Meeting rooms are also on hand for anyone combining business with the trip, and pets are welcome.
Beyond the hotel, golf and fishing are both within reach, along with pubs, restaurants and other entertainment nearby, so there's plenty to fill an evening after a day out. It's a practical, comfortable choice for a Scottish break centred on the Dumfries and Galloway countryside.
What guests say
Hotel has had a very recent refit and looks amazing, very clean and modern. I was given a free room upgrade (hope that's not made me biased 🤣). Staff were very friendly and helpful. The lounge area was really smart and comfy. If it'd been warmer I'd have enjoyed a beer in the wooden patio. Lots of nautical themed photos all around. Nice open fire place (though wasn't lit on this occasion). The room was very smart, spacious, comfortable, lots of lights and convenient plug sockets. The bathroom was plenty spacious, clean and new. The shower was great (no bath). Evening food was very good and was served quickly. The breakfast menu included a full Scottish breakfast with haggis, nice touch as first time breakfast I'd had that had haggis on my 7 night tour of Scotland.

Another nice stay here. The room was very comfortable (although there were a couple of maintenance issues needing attention). The restaurant has a very high standard, with a good range of dishes and a nice wine selection. The staff are generally very helpful and cheerful. Overall, very good value and happy to return soon.

Had dinner and drinks here on 1st April and had lovely meal with great service from attentive staff. The dining room has a real sense of style but is still comfortable and I liked all the nooks and crannies to sit in the lounge areas with a drink. The food was really delicious and the menu was interesting with something for every taste, reasonably priced. Second time I have eaten here and service was much quicker as they are settling in. Well done, will be back.

This hotel is on the final run of a refurbishment and we booked some time ago wondering whether we would be either walking into a building site or if we would be reaping the benefits of new investment. Well it was definitely the latter. The staff were awesome, super friendly and even all the younger staff seemed really well trained. Room was great, just made for a really good stay. Can't praise the staff enough.
