About Amaryllis Guest House

Amaryllis Guest House starts the day properly, with a full breakfast included for guests staying in its four rooms. It's a small, adults-only setup, so mornings tend to be quiet and unhurried, and drinks can be brought up to your room if you'd rather take things at your own pace.

The building itself dates back to 1806, and the rooms keep a relaxed, unfussy character rather than anything overly formal, with most offering their own en suite bathroom and views over the garden. Reception runs around the clock, which helps if you're arriving late or heading out early. Free WiFi is available throughout.

Set on Upper Gilmore Place in Edinburgh, the guest house is around 1.5 miles from Haymarket, with Edinburgh Zoo also within reach as a nearby point of interest. Pubs, restaurants and other eateries are close by, along with a golf course and entertainment options, making it a straightforward base for exploring the city without much fuss.

This property is a Georgian townhouse with a lovely foyer and a beautiful balustraded staircase leading up to the second and third stories. It has all modern updates that don't take away from the charm of the historic home. It is also impeccably clean and has a warm home feel. It is very private with no traffic noise. Mine was a cozy single room with en-suite and a great shower with a wall-mounted flat-screen television. I had a view of the lovely small back garden planted with hydrangea bushes. Cathy and Lynn were very welcoming and incredibly helpful with main attraction locations, including a city map and the buses and routes available. Cathy ordered a taxi for me to arrive at 6:15 AM on the morning of my departure, ensuring I would make my early morning flight. Uber is not reliable. Although it does not offer breakfast, it provides a kettle so you can serve yourself with a nice hot cup of cofee or tea anytime along with some fresh fruit and biscuits. I look forward to staying with them again and highly recommend Amaryllis Guest House to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

I haven't stayed in a guesthouse for some time, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I'm quite used to chain hotels and Airbnbs. However, I found myself delighted. I had a small single room with its own ensuite, that was honestly plenty of room for one when you're out and about in the day. I appreciated the excellent shower and modern bathroom, the spotlessly clean room, and freshly-made bed each day. There's also a kettle with teas and coffee, as well as biscuits and fruit available in the room. It was also nice to have a TV to put on in the evening. Bed was very comfortable and I had three peaceful nights' sleep here. Cathy the owner is incredibly responsive to queries, and happily greeted me at the door on arrival, providing me with a map and handy info for getting into the city and travelling about. The guesthouse is about 15 mins walk into the heart of the old town. You can also take buses from very close by, and taxis/ubers were also easy to get from the location if needed. I found that it was very peaceful to stay here, and I barely ran into anyone on my trips in and out. If you're considering this guesthouse for a trip to Edinburgh, I can throughly recommend it.

Pokey small rooms in an old house, pity we got stuffed in the loft room! Tiny bathroom, a PC monitor is used as the TV screen, centrally located, good breakfasts.
