lovely and helpful staff, appalling rooms. loads of mold, dust, paper-thin walls, bathroom door didn't close, towel had an old (period?) stain on it. toilets barely flushed. every time we ran the water, horrendous noises came from the pipes. a memorable experience, if nothing else :)

I do not usually leave negative reviews, but after seeing the owner’s response describing my experience as “laughable”, I felt it was important to share this in detail so others can make an informed decision. This is not a hotel. It is a pub with rooms upstairs, and it is not advertised as such. We booked this place as it was close to the corn exchange, expecting standard hotel accommodation, but that is not what this is. There is no proper reception. The only person available was the bartender or owner, who was rude and unhelpful. It is situated directly above a pub (this information was not mentiomed online), so there is constant music and chatter. The walls are paper thin and you can hear absolutely everything around you, including very intimate situations from the neighbouring room, which made the stay extremely uncomfortable and awkward. The bathroom is extremely small, with a loud noise every time the toilet is flushed or hot water is used. There is barely enough space to use the sink properly, and there was no proper door handle or working lock, meaning the bathroom door would not close. There was visible mould in the shower, and parts of the bathroom appeared to be held together with duct tape. There is no central heating. A very small radiator was in the room, but it switched off after a few minutes due to overheating, leaving the room cold. On Booking, check in is listed until midnight. As a courtesy, I called around 7pm when we arrived in Edinburgh for a concert, I wished to confirm that we will arrive that evening, as we had a concert to attend. We were told we had to arrive immediately to pick up the keys. I explained this was not possible due to prior plans, but they insisted we come at that moment. Because of this, we were forced to leave and collect the keys, which resulted in us missing the concert entirely. The moment we entered the room, my partner was already checking for trains back to Glasgow that same night, as we did not feel comfortable staying. In the morning, we asked if we could buy a coffee from the pub downstairs, but were told they do not serve coffee and were instead directed to a café 10 minutes away. There was a kettle in the room, but it was not sanitary, with visible limescale deposits inside.

Ardmillan hotel is a great wee spot for locals and tourists. Staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful:) especially Amanda. Rooms are beautiful and very handy for convenience of walking or getting the bus into town.

Was here last night for the Hearts v Falkirk game. Last few minutes of the game the woman in charge of the bar announced to the pub that we would all have to leave if Hearts secured the title as she had regulars to look after. I will never, ever, spend another pound in this place and I will share this experience far and wide. A truly despicable way to treat paying customers.
