About Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City West

Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City West suits travellers who want a straightforward, well-priced base rather than a destination in itself – families on a city break, business visitors, or anyone happy to bus into the centre rather than pay to stay in the middle of it. With 129 rooms, the hotel is set up for practical stays: family rooms, en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, accessible rooms and Wi-Fi throughout, plus drinks in room for those who want to settle in without heading down to the bar.

Breakfast is a genuine strength here, with a good spread of options to set guests up for the day, and staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. There's a restaurant and bar on site, along with a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating for warmer days, and practical extras like laundry service, luggage storage and business facilities. It's worth noting that some rooms have been reported as not always well maintained, so this is a hotel that scores more on convenience and service than on polish.

Chargeable on-site parking is available for those driving up, while bus connections from nearby make getting into central Edinburgh easy without a car. The surrounding area also offers golf, fishing and watersports nearby, along with pubs and restaurants for evenings out, and the hotel welcomes pets for those travelling with four-legged companions.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were exceptional, especially Gavin, couldn't do enough for you. Made our stay very enjoyable. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice and if you don't leave it to the last minute, there are no queues either as some have stated in their reviews. They even tell you what times are best to avoid the busy breakfast period. They can't be fairer than that. Evening meals that we had were nice and good sizes. View from our room was stunning and location for what we wanted. The rugby stadium, perfect.

I really enjoyed my 6-night stay. Decent breakfast, clean rooms and modern design. The staff were very friendly. The only thing is the location. There’s no problem if you travel by car, and there is a bus stop just 1 min from the hotel. However, walking to the city centre takes approx. 40 min, though it's through the lovely Dean Village. Anyway, my overall experience was really satisfying. Oh, and you have an amazing view if you have city view windows!

Advantages: First of all, cleanliness is a big plus — the room was well maintained, and towels and trash were changed daily. Breakfast is included, and the food is good and varied. Another positive aspect is that smoking is not allowed inside, which creates a pleasant environment. The hotel is accessible by bus; even though it takes about 30 minutes to reach the city center, there is a direct line, and the view is absolutely worth it. Disadvantages: The room is too small for a family with two children, with very limited storage space and barely any room to move around. If you have children, I recommend choosing single beds — the sofa is of very poor quality. My husband slept on it, and for a family with a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old, it was a real disaster. The pillows are very uncomfortable and hard. Regarding dinner, if you have the option to eat in town, it’s a much better choice. If not, avoid dishes like fried fish with chips (fish fingers), as they are very oily, mostly dry crust, and contain very little actual fish. We mentioned this issue to one of the staff members who served us on Sunday, April 12, but the response was very brief and uninterested. However, we would like to highlight Miss Poonam (if I remember the name correctly), who deserves a 5+ — she is hardworking, helps everyone, and is always smiling. I truly appreciate positive people.

I had a great stay at Holiday Inn Express in West Edinburgh. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and very well maintained. What really made my stay special was the staff—they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything I needed. Their excellent service made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Thank you to the whole team!
