About Kimpton Charlotte Square
Kimpton Charlotte Square occupies a row of Georgian townhouses on the square that Robert Adam designed as the western full stop to James Craig's New Town grid. From the pavement it reads as period architecture and nothing else; inside, the interiors are contemporary, colourful and a good deal more playful than the address suggests.
The centrepiece is the Garden, a glass-roofed courtyard restaurant filled with planting that works as a bright breakfast room and a comfortable place to sit out a wet afternoon. There is also a spa with a swimming pool, steam room and treatment rooms, plus BABA, a Levantine restaurant and bar that has become a destination in its own right for Edinburgh diners rather than just hotel guests.
Rooms number around 200 and vary considerably given the joined-up townhouse layout — some are neat and efficient, others generous with high Georgian ceilings and windows onto the square. Expect good beds, decent coffee, and the Kimpton house touches of an evening social hour and a genuinely relaxed attitude to dogs, which are welcomed without a supplement.
The location is the quiet, elegant end of the centre. Princes Street is two minutes away, the Scottish National Gallery about eight, and the castle a fifteen-minute walk uphill. That makes it a strong choice for couples and for anyone who wants city-centre convenience without the Old Town's late-night noise. It is also well placed for the Book Festival, which uses Charlotte Square Gardens itself in August.

Absolutely amazing experience at the hotel and in the spa. We were visiting to celebrate my partner’s 40th birthday and the staff went above and beyond to ensure the trip was made as special as possible. Every staff member was extremely nice and helpful, the room was lovely and well stocked and breakfast was incredible, really setting you up well to adventure round Edinburgh. The location of the hotel was also perfect, just only the edge of the city in a nice and quiet location, but minutes away from all the sights. Everything about this hotel was perfect and all the little touches really made this visit special.

We stayed at the Kimpton in Edinburgh for a city break in December and absolutely loved it. From the moment we arrived, the hotel had a stylish, luxurious and welcoming atmosphere. The entrance, lobby and rooms were beautifully designed and felt like the perfect blend of elegance and comfort. The location was fantastic and within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see and do in Edinburgh. What really stood out was the service. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, professional and incredibly accommodating. Whenever we needed anything, it was dealt with quickly and efficiently, making our stay completely stress-free. We also loved some of the unique touches the hotel offered, including the complimentary social hour with drinks between 5pm and 6pm, which created a lovely atmosphere for guests. Another highlight was the handbag rental partnership, which was such a fun and memorable addition that we hadn’t seen at other hotels. Breakfast was excellent, with a great selection and high-quality food, and we really enjoyed spending time in the restaurant and bar area, which had a cosy yet sophisticated feel. Overall, this is one of the best city-break hotels we have stayed in. Beautiful hotel, excellent service, fantastic location and thoughtful touches throughout. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Samantha and the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. After traveling all day we arrived at the Kimpton Charlotte Hotel and were informed our reservation had been canceled. This was something we did not do and weren’t sure where it occurred. Samantha worked tirelessly to get us a room for the night. She upgraded our room. She also ordered us a taxi and comped it for our reservation. When we returned our room was ready and our bags delivered to us. The next morning we checked out and had a small gift from Samantha for the trouble. The hotel itself was very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel for the hospitality alone!
