About Leonardo Royal Edinburgh Haymarket

A mini-fridge in every one of the 282 rooms is a small but telling detail at Leonardo Royal Edinburgh Haymarket, a large hotel built for guests who value practicality alongside comfort. The rooms themselves run spacious, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and room service laid on, though a few have shown signs of wear that housekeeping hasn't always kept on top of. Family and accessible rooms are available across the hotel's five floors, served by a lift.

Breakfast is a genuine highlight here, served alongside options from the on-site restaurant and bar. Beyond the usual comforts of free WiFi and laundry service, the hotel also caters to business travellers with meeting rooms and business services, and childcare can be arranged for families. On-site parking is available, though it comes at an extra cost.

The setting opposite Haymarket Station makes onward travel straightforward, with Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle both within easy reach. Golf, fishing and watersports are all listed nearby for those wanting to venture further, while pubs, bars and restaurants nearby cover the essentials for an evening out. Staff are consistently described as friendly and quick to help, which counts for a good deal on a first visit to the city.

A nice hotel, nicely situated, but not without it's flaws. Rooms don't have soundproof windows so noise from the street and vehicles isn't the quietest. The king room i was in had a very firm mattress, with two indents at either side, shaped like W, implying heavy use, so as a solo traveller made getting comfy difficult. The room has seen better days, and is beginning to show signs of age in the decor. Breakfast was busy between 0830-0930. Food wasn't the greatest either - quality and care lacking. That being said, there was an ok amount of variety available. Staff could have been more helpful: At check-in i wasn't notified that the lift required your room key to operate (not difficult to work out, a heads up would have been nice), at dinner i was asked for my room number, the assumption being to charge to the room, but on exit i was asked to pay there and then, so some mild confusion. At breakfast, i was shown to a table, and then nothing. No 'this is how things work' etc - again not difficult to work out. And finally at check out, after paying for parking (£10 for 24 hours), i turned away from the desk to leave when a guest checking in told me i'd left my wallet there, in front of the receptionist - yet no word from her. So overall, a well placed and handy hotel, but lacks anything to write home about.

This hotel is well located in the west end of Edinburgh, but as other reviews mention, the rooms very much are showing their age. We needed to use the sofa bed for my 10 year old daughter, which was not very comfortable. We did find the rooms to be quiet, which was impressive considering how busy the hotel was while we were there. The hotel is a short walk from Haymarket Station but the tram was running on limited service, so we walked into the city centre several times, which takes about 30 minutes. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel as there's an M&S Simply Food at Haymarket Station, which had various budget friendly breakfast options. There's a few coffee shops at cafes in the area providing breakfast as well.

I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is excellent—just a short walk from the train station and close to many amenities, good restaurants, and the conference centre I needed to attend. Breakfast was generous with a wide selection of options, and both the lobby and restaurant were welcoming and well-maintained. What stood out most was the exceptional service from the staff. Unfortunately, I left some items behind in my room after checking out, and the team went above and beyond in their efforts to help me locate them. Their responsiveness and willingness to assist were greatly appreciated. Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay with excellent customer service. I would happily stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort and great service. From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive, making the entire experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. The room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were especially cozy, ensuring a great night’s sleep after a long day. One of the highlights of our stay was definitely the breakfast. There was a wide variety of fresh and delicious options, from warm dishes to pastries and good coffee. Everything was well-presented and regularly replenished, making it a perfect start to the day. Overall, the combination of excellent service, comfortable accommodation, and a fantastic breakfast made this a truly pleasant experience. We would definitely stay here again.
