Riverside camping and glamping two miles from Ely

About Hatters Meadows

Tucked along the River Great Ouse just outside Ely, Hatters Meadows at Clayway Farm offers proper fenland peace without the holiday-park bustle. Generously spaced pitches – each with its own fire pit – suit tents, tourers and motorhomes, while timber glamping tents come fitted with log burners, fridges and kitchen sinks for those who want a little comfort. Showers and loos are housed in a well-kept block, and electric hook-up pitches sit on grass rather than hardstanding.

The setting feels genuinely rural: wildflower meadows, riverside walks and dark skies overhead, with Ely's cathedral spire visible from camp. The towpath into the city makes for an easy cycle ride to shops, cafes and the cathedral itself. It's an eco-conscious, family-friendly spot that suits campers after a quiet, back-to-basics base close to town rather than on-site entertainment.

Beautiful stay I had here with my daughter. I love how close you feel to nature just moments away from Ely. Be sure to take it slow upon approaching the campsite, as you might miss the turn. The owners of the camp are very kind and accommodating. Easy to chat with so don’t be shy! Shower blocks are glorious. We stayed in our off-the-grid campervan and were very comfortable on the grass pitch. Appreciated having a place to freeze our ice blocks (unlike the club site we stayed at next). I was honestly surprised we had the place to ourselves for the most part. Highly recommend this place, especially if you love nature and small wildlife! Also, they have great resources for things to do nearby in case you’re a last minute planner like us!

We visited Hatters Meadow in our motorhome in May 2026. We had been following the campsite for some time on social media and were keen to visit as it is not too far away from our home. On our arrival, we were met by Claire who was friendly and welcoming showing us the toilet block, water point and our pitch. Our pitch was a good size with views to the open fields and close to the toilet block. The toilet block was clean with hot water. The showers were great, particularly the one with the shower, toilet and basin in one room. Perfect for getting ready for a wedding which we did on our last morning! Many thanks too to Bob and Lesley, wardens at the site who were extremely friendly and helpful; giving us tips for places to see in Ely - Tom's Cakes (amazing cakes) and The Cutter Inn (great riverside location) both were great. We intend to return to Hatters Meadows and plan to do the walk into Ely from the site as well as sampling Bob's pizzas!

This is a lovely campsite! We had a standard pitch which was a generous size, beautifully mown and surrounded by long grass and wildflowers. The facilities are excellent, good showers, clean toilets and plenty of hot water. There is a very useful shop for a few essentials and treats (marshmallows, ice creams, beer, wine and Pimms!) and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

We’ve just returned from a fantastic 3 night stay in our campervan Skye. Wonderful site, great staff, very welcoming and friendly. Perfect location for exploring the area. We walked into Ely along the riverbank one day, very easy. Took us about 70 minutes. We loved the market and visiting the cathedral. We also walked to Prickwillow Steam Engine museum, which was also good. The facilities are excellent, clean, hot water and well cared for. We were extremely lucky with the bank holiday weather. We will return. Thank you
