Old Inzievar Cottage

Photo: Ford Goodwin

Old Inzievar Cottage comes with the essentials taken care of: bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are all included, along with initial fuel for both the open fire and wood burner. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge-freezer, while the utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. What you're getting is a complete, ready-to-use base rather than a half-empty shell.

The cottage itself sits on a working farm estate west of Dunfermline, surrounded by mature beech woods and rolling fields. Downstairs there's a living room with the focal point of an open fire, a kitchen-diner with a wood burner, and a separate utility room with toilet. Upstairs are two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with zip-and-link single beds—and a bathroom with bath and shower. A lawned garden with furniture faces south, and you have access to 18 acres of natural woodland on the estate. One dog can stay free.

The location works for both quiet breaks and getting out: dog walkers will find plenty of routes through the woods and surrounding farmland, while Culross village and its abbey are just a mile away on the Forth coast. Dunfermline is 6 miles east, and Edinburgh, Perth and Stirling are all within an hour's drive. A shop is 1½ miles away, with a pub and restaurant at 2 miles. No smoking inside the cottage. There is an unfenced pond in the woodland.

Clean, tidy and spacious cottage. Has everything required for a relaxing, comfortable stay. Fully equipped including the dishwasher tablets. Gracious host Tim, who welcomed us all on arrival, with flowers in hand and a bottle wine and chocolates to enjoy. There is so much to see and do that our week went by too soon.
