Dungeness is a wild, shingle headland jutting into the Channel, part of a National Nature Reserve where the flat expanse of Romney Marsh meets the coast. Fulmar sits right at the water's edge here, a one-level property with windows facing the sea. The village itself is sparse and characterful—a scatter of timber-clad buildings, a working lifeboat station, and the distinctive nuclear power station visible across the shale. Birdwatchers and walkers come for the reserve; others simply come for the isolation and the horizon.

Inside, two double bedrooms and a bathroom sit alongside an open-plan living space with a wood-burner and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking. The real draw is the covered terrace overlooking the beach, furnished with seating and a barbecue (bring your own fuel). Parking is on site. Electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are all included; heating comes from oil central heating and the wood-burner. There is a washing machine in an external utility room. The cottage is non-smoking.

This is the kind of place for people who want to be genuinely beside the sea rather than near it—the sort where you wake to the sound of shingle and spend evenings watching light move across the water. The Kent and Sussex coasts are within reach for day trips, but most visitors come precisely because Dungeness itself demands little more than a walk, a pair of binoculars, or simply time to sit still.
