About The Crown Hotel

For travellers who want to be in the middle of Harrogate without giving up hotel comforts, The Crown Hotel on Crown Place makes a practical base. With 114 rooms, it suits everything from weekend breaks to business trips and weddings, backed by free on-site parking and a garden with outdoor seating for quieter moments.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and free WiFi, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. Some rooms show their age and could do with better upkeep, but the hotel makes up ground elsewhere: the restaurant and bar are known for generous breakfasts and dinners with plenty of choice, and staff are consistently described as helpful and attentive. A bridal suite and VIP facilities cater to weddings, while meeting rooms and business services suit corporate visitors.

Beyond the hotel, Harrogate's central location puts golf, fishing, cycling and walking within easy reach, alongside nearby pubs, bars and restaurants. Pets are welcome, and extras such as packed lunches, laundry service and luggage storage make longer or more complicated stays easier to manage.

Staff were lovely. Our room was horrendous though. I don't normally leave reviews but wanted to try and help others avoid the same mistake. We went through Groupon, which we know usually means you get the rooms needing an upgrade of some sort. The room we got was nothing like the picture, the mattress was like a plank of wood, there was a large stain in the carpet a foot or so away from the bathroom door (we guessed it was perhaps someone's pet). The floors creaked so loudly we felt sorry for anyone in the rooms around us, and we actually made a game out of seeing how many steps we could get without them creaking loudly (3 steps was our record). Each morning we woke feeling tired and sore, the breakfast wasn't good. Dinner was nice though. Central location but did not feel like a holiday, felt like something we had to endure until we got back home, which is a shame. Perhaps it would have been different if we had purchased all the additional add ones that were emailed as options. £20 a night for a room upgrade, £5 a day breakfast upgrade, £15 a day parking. Staff were lovely but no amount of lovely service can make up for that room. Not honest advertising.

Lovely grand hotel in a perfect location with friendly, down to earth staff. Excellent value for money too! Ollie behind the bar was particularly lovely and helpful, but so was the lady who checked me in, and everyone else I came across during my stay. Will definitely be back.

The hotel is a nice old fashioned style hotel with original features etc. Very nice really. However the room I was give seemed a bit dated and had the worst view of walls and windows (a bit like a lift shaft). This area also dripped all night in the wet weather. The room had 2 single beds with the worst soft mattresses...Probably ok for kids but offered no support at all. A bad sleep was had. Also the breakfast started at 7.30 which was too late for me compared with Premier Inns that start at 6.30. Although I was provided with a hot take away option, I would have preferred pastries/juice etc. I have to leave for work at 7am ish so the breakfast time was an issue. The evening meals also stopped at 8pm, which was too early as I worked until 8pm so had to get takeaway. Parking is also an issue with very few parking spaces and some kind of preferential parking space system for other guests. I had to park in a nearby pay and display which had a very confusing pricing structure for evening parking. I will suggest to my company hotel booker that this hotel isnt really suitable for us. There was also a contact lens stuck on the mirror light in the bathroom from the previous room occupant.

A special trip with my best friend to celebrate her “big” birthday and retiring We’ve stayed here a couple of times before. It’s a lovely old building, a tiny bit in need of updating in places but still stunning The main areas are lovely. The food is extremely good value and of high standards. Will keep coming back, Giselle was particularly delightful
