Funny little place this... Unusually it seems to be entirely female-run - I didn't see a single male team member while I was there. Everybody was friendly enough but not what you'd call chirpy - to be fair that could have been the heatwave... Food was delicious and reasonable both in the evening and at breakfast, although something made me feel terrible around bedtime - I suspect it was the pint of cask I had (Butty Bach). The bar and restaurant areas are clean and nicely decorated - interesting and quirky. If you like cats you'll love the little resident kitty, whiskers - she's gorgeous. Now for the not so good... The room I stayed in, sold as a double, really isn't... They warn you by email before you arrive that it's cosy, but it really isn't at all suitable for a couple - it's cramped even for one person. It's also kind of tatty, especially the shower which is tiny and just surrounded by a curtain - the extractor didn't work too so damp was an obvious issue. The whole upper floor actually is a bit unappealing - the landings just feel a bit like somebody's slightly messy house. The room was cheap, but honestly you'd be better off in a travelodge. The outdoor areas are also very tatty and unappealing - you could say rustic but not in a good way... Overall it's a shame, for whatever reason it just isn't realising its potential.

We stopped here for a wedding in the local area. Staff and service were absolutely brilliant, couldn’t fault the team. Room was tidy, great value for money in a brilliant setting. Food was great, we managed to get dinner and breakfast whilst staying. Great choice of beer at the bar and a good time all round.

The location was okay, fair size carpark, nice patio seating area, nice old looking bar lounge although a bit dark. The bedrooms were up very narrow staircase, not suitable for aged disabled persons. We had a room at the top, sloped ceiling(attic) nice looking room but limited space around the bed especially to the toilet at night. Very nice food especially for special occasions.

This is my kind of place to stay. Full of character and how a pub should be. The room was ideal and the bed was very comfortable. This may not be for everyone but I think places like this make your stays away better. If you want your standard white walls and no quirks go to a Travelodge and don't moan. Great selection on draught and I even got to try Hawkstone. All staff here have been great, very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was great and made to feel welcome. The food was amazing the halloumi in the sticky sauce, the gammon and the dirty burger I would definitely recommend and with staying at a weekend was lucky enough to sample their breakfast which was awesome. Thanks for a great weekend and hopefully be back again in future.
