About Somerville House

Somerville House is a Victorian townhouse on Bodenham Road, run as a small guesthouse within a ten-minute walk of Hereford Cathedral and High Town. Rooms are individually decorated and generally larger than a comparable city-centre hotel, with the owners' personal attention a consistent theme in guest feedback.

Breakfast is cooked to order using local produce where possible, served in a dining room at the front of the house, and the quiet residential street offers easier parking than the very centre of the city. It suits couples and independent travellers who prefer a personally run B&B over a chain hotel.

The walk into the centre passes through quiet Victorian streets, making it a pleasant approach to the cathedral and the shops around High Town.

My husband and I decided to take a couple of nights in Hereford. We were looking for a hotel within walking distance of the city centre. We came across Somerville House - a five star guest house - and loved the reviews. The reviews were excellent and accurate. The room was large, beautifully furnished and king sized bed was SO comfortable. The bathroom was excellent in size and The attention to detail was EXCELLENT. This beats a first rate hotel any day. Breakfast was cooked to order and was fantastic. As you can see, Somerville House takes some beating……

What a lovely stay at Somerville House. The hosts were amazing, nothing was ever too much trouble even when I was messaging and having to change timings etc as I was trying to get my husband there as a surprise after a surprise 40th party for him in Hereford. The room was beautiful and we slept so well. A short walk into town which is great. The breakfast was outstanding with attention to detail being key. The best thing about the hotel for me was that the owners used local products where possible so we had the most amazing local jam, honey, juice and cheeky cider. Would 100% recommend this gem it's fabulous.

We decided to treat ourselves to an overnight before a local forge experience, having read the glowing reviews. Such a relaxing, friendly and well-appointed place to stay! We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and our hosts had lots of tips on places to go to in the local area. Our room was really cosy with very comfy bed and pillows, delicious local drinks in the fridge at extremely reasonable prices for a mini bar. The bathroom was spacious and clean with a lovely warm shower and good quality towels. After a wander into town for food we sat in the gorgeous private garden listening to the Swifts as the stars came out enjoying a local cider, provided through an honesty box system. Slept really well and were then treated to the most wonderful breakfast with lots of delicious cold options plus full English available, with obvious effort to locally sourced ingredients and use Hereford producers and produce. Very impressed and hope we have reason to return, this is a wonderful place to stay. Our visit was a bit of a treat, this would be the top end of our budget, but we feel we got excellent value for money. Thank you Steve and Sheila for the obvious hard work you put into making Somerville House so special.

Great little place to stay in Hereford. A short walk into the centre and not far from the train station. The owners were brilliant… I arrived early but they were more than happy to allow the car to be parked and even gave me the key ready for when I return. Room was comfortable and had everything you need and the breakfast was fantastic. Local butcher’s sausages and bacon which were delicious. All in all you couldn’t fault anything and out of all the accommodation I’ve stayed at in Hereford I would fully recommend this as your first option. It has that lovely homely feeling with such a friendly atmosphere. Will most definitely be staying again. Thankyou 😊
