About Holmescales Campsite
Set in peaceful countryside near Old Hutton, Holmescales Campsite offers a refreshingly simple escape within easy reach of Kendal. The thirty non-electric grass pitches suit those after a proper back-to-basics experience, and campfires are permitted – a welcome touch for evenings under the stars. Families and dog owners are catered for, with clean facilities including showers, toilets and drinking water on site.
The setting feels genuinely rural without being remote, making it a solid base for exploring the southern Lakes. While the lack of WiFi and electric hook-ups won't suit everyone, that's rather the point here – this is camping stripped back to its essentials, done well.

What visitors say
My partner and I stayed here for the weekend and ended up loving it even more than we expected. The campsite is small, which we actually liked—but it’s worth noting that if it were fully booked, the hard-standing pitches might feel a little close together. The facilities are basic, but that’s clearly stated as it’s a wild-style campsite, so we knew what to expect and were perfectly happy with that. As self-contained motorhome owners, we found it very comfortable and suited our needs well. There are some lovely local walks, including routes up to The Helm overlooking Kendal, which we really enjoyed—and our dogs absolutely loved it too. The two luxury cabins on the hill also looked fantastic, and we’d definitely consider staying in one of those in the future. Overall, we think this is a great site for motorhomes, caravans, and campervans. We’d happily recommend it, would return ourselves, and agree it’s a brilliant stopover spot just a short drive from the M6. Also some beautiful views

Fantastic motorhome/caravan pitch. Liked it. Only 2 shower room but it’s neat and clean. Good toilet, good privacy for family. Fantastic location must try guys.

Absolutely brilliant place. Great facilities, fantastic views and very convenient for visiting the local area. The staff are very attentive and the other guests were very friendly… I know that Holmescales can’t guarantee the latter, but it did add to a great experience/visit! Thank you 🙏🏼
