Dalebottom Farm Caravan & Camping Park

Gorgeous location, accommodating for me and my friend who was in a tent, putting us as close together as possible. Very nice vibe on the site - quiet but social. Great farmyard eggs. Washing area, toilets and showers My only criticism is the toilets/showers which are in need of a renovation, but also a good 'decobweb' and 'degrass' on a daily basis. Showers need shelving and somewhere to change/sit. Would definitely return.

Start of by saying the views from camp were amazing! And the location couldn’t have been better in terms of things to do within short drives, however, unfortunately, a thing you might want to account for is the whole tent field is rocky, no matter where you try to pitch. We did a whole lap of the field and tried everywhere but no luck! The other 5 tents also had their tent pegs sticking out the ground. The reason this had subsequently been a problem is because of the unpredictability of the Lake District weather, we did run into quite heavy winds and rain. The lack of ground support for our tent therefore couldn’t keep our tent into place, causing us to have to take it down and pack away. Again, we weren’t the only ones who struggled with this and there were other groups having to pack there tent away to. Understandably, the site cannot control weather, but a good note of this on there website could’ve saved us having to pack away and leave for a 4 hour drive home at 11pm at night. Another thing we weren’t so happy with was the lack of knowing what to do once we arrived, we had tried to call early to say we’d be arriving head of schedule (which was only around 15/20 minutes early) with absolutely no answer. We also tried just turning up but with no signs where to park and no person in site and reception closed, we were forced to have to turn around and find somewhere to park. We also noticed that the coffee stool isn’t open during the week, which although we understand weather, the website states it’s open during peak seasons, and summer is definitely a peak season. Lastly, when the storm hit, there was no one around, no one in reception and no one for us to be able to ask for any help. We live 4 hours away and at 11pm at night the last thing we wanted to have to do was drive home 2 days before having to leave. With all hotels booked and expensive for the night we were forced to go, which completely ruined our experience.

We both thoroughly enjoyed the camp, the location was absolutely stunning and easy to find. Close enough to local amenities but far enough out that you still had a good “remote camp feel” The pitches and field quality were absolutely amazing even when we had rain, it didn’t become boggy or ruin the stay. The facilities are just what you want in terms of a clean shower, clean toilets, drinking water available and a wash up station in one location away from the camp. We actually moved to the south of the lakes and stayed in a National Trust site and have actually ended our journey early because we didn’t feel comfortable there and we’ve both spoke about how me missed the simplicity and peaceful side of Dalebottom - so thank you for having us and we will be returning next year!

This is my new favourite campsite. Having stayed last year with a friend who’d been before I revisited again this week with my doggo. I managed to book on last minute which was ideal as I often head across on a whim. The staff were also super helpful when I wanted to stay any extra night which was no issue. The location is perfect for access around the lakes, driving to ullswater, derwentwater and Grasmere didn’t take long. Walks straight from the campsite were also a plus, High Rigg fell provided some amazing sunset views! And the views of blencathra and skiddaw from the field were beautiful. The campsite just had lovely chilled, friendly vibes to it. Everyone who stayed was friendly and courteous of others. It was super quiet overnight so I slept the best I’ve ever slept camping. I usually prefer wild camping as I’ve found most campsites quite busy and noisy, but this was the opposite, even in school holidays!
