About Buckle Street Studios by Locke Aldgate

The Tower of London is within easy reach of Buckle Street Studios by Locke Aldgate, and Aldgate East underground station is close by too, making this a practical base for exploring the City and beyond. The surrounding streets offer plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants for evenings out, without needing to travel far.

The hotel itself has 101 studio rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and drinks provided in the room. Free WiFi runs throughout, and a lift serves all floors, with accessible rooms also available for those who need them. Laundry service and luggage storage are on hand for longer stays or busy travel days, and pets are welcome. There's no parking on site, so this suits guests arriving by public transport or on foot.

Some rooms show signs of wear, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly, though the location and the helpfulness of staff are consistently noted as strengths. For a stay built around getting into central London quickly and having food and drink options on the doorstep, the setting does the heavy lifting.

What an absolute dump. It looks incredible in photos, but it is totally impractical on every level. It’s like an alien designer who has never occupied a human body created a hotel. Air conditioning- can’t cool below 22 Sound insulation- non-existent, it’s like your neighbour is in the room with you Lighting- hope you don’t need to see under your chin to shave. I can’t imagine what a trial applying makeup would be. A tiny window provides the only natural light. Layout- you literally don’t have enough room to place your feet down beside your bed. CitizenM manages to fit so much more in the same amount of space. The front desk has no problem-solving authority, they simply repeat the same thing when asked to solve an issue like the A/C not cooling. They said they would send someone from maintenance and then never did so. Housekeeping is only available for weeklong stays. They will not clean your kitchen, and they skip over anything you can’t see. The top shelf is CAKED in dust. The floor is filthy. To be clear, I don’t blame the housekeepers. It would be an absolute nightmare to attempt cleaning this in this kafkaesque prison.

Great location, nice area which felt safe and close to underground station so easy to get around. Local cafes and restaurants. Room was very clean and had aircon but a little small (which was fine for us) access to a gym in the opposite hotel. The reception staff were so lovely and welcoming.

I stayed at Buckle Street Studios for a few nights and it was mostly a good experiance. The location is very convinient and easy to get around from. The room was clean and modern, just a little small for all our luggage. At night there was some noise, but it wasnt too bad and we still slept ok. The staff were nice. One young male receptionist with curly blonde hair was particularly friendly and very helpfull. Overall it was a good stay and I would come back again.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at this hotel was so far below any reasonable standard that it needs to be shared — especially as my formal complaint has still not received *any* response. The stay was plagued by serious issues from start to finish. The most alarming was a sprinkler system failure that resulted in *all water being shut off for at least five hours*. During this time, guests were left without the ability to shower, use the kitchen, or even use the toilet. There was no communication from management at any point. Despite water visibly cascading down the inside of the lift, it continued operating, raising obvious concerns about electrical safety and guest welfare. No alternative toilet facilities were offered, nor were guests directed to the sister hotel directly across the street. For a hotel positioning itself as a premium option, the room itself was shockingly poor. Dirty underwear was left in the wardrobe, the floor was filthy, rubbish was under the bed, and the bathroom was nowhere near hygienic. Half the lights didn’t work, and the room layout was completely misrepresented — there was barely a six‑inch gap at the end of the bed, nothing like the photos advertised. To make matters worse, the hotel’s complaints section on the website didn’t work, and no contact number was provided. Before arrival, I received multiple upgrade offers, yet after checking out a day early due to the issues, I heard nothing. No apology, no explanation, no partial refund, and not even a basic acknowledgment of the complaint I submitted through alternative channels. The combination of safety hazards, lack of basic facilities, poor cleanliness, and total absence of communication is unacceptable for any accommodation provider. The fact that the hotel has not responded at all only reinforces how little regard they seem to have for their guests. I cannot recommend this hotel and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere.
