About Fox and Anchor

Smithfield Market, on the edge of the City, has long been a place for early starts and hearty appetites, and Fox and Anchor fits right into that tradition. This adults-only hotel sits above a proper pub, with St Paul's Cathedral within reach for those who want to explore further into central London.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and free WiFi, along with drinks in the room for guests who'd rather not head straight back downstairs. The pub itself is the heart of the place, serving breakfast, a restaurant menu and a well-regarded Sunday roast, with crispy pork belly and tender beef among the dishes diners return for, plus fish and chips and other pub staples. Outdoor seating, a snack bar and room service round out the eating options, and the atmosphere throughout is traditional and convivial rather than corporate.

Staff are attentive and the pub atmosphere is consistently praised, making it a good base for a night that starts with a proper meal. Luggage storage and 24 hour reception make arrivals and departures straightforward, while meeting rooms are available for those mixing business with the visit. Further pubs, bars and restaurants are within easy reach nearby.

We stayed above the pub which was very nice. The first night I had the Fish & Chips which is a must try! Super delicious and I have to say that their tartar sauce was amazing as well and I wish we had that taste back in the states. Breakfast was equally delicious! You can’t go wrong with anything you order. Friends enjoyed the roast meal (sorry for no pics) and it delivered all the flavors and could probably be shared between two people. Overall, if you’re in the area this is an experience you need to try! Also, it’s not far from transportation.

After meeting up with brother it was time for Sunday lunch I chose the Fox & Anchor having never been thought give it a go. Probably one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had the Fox’s roast was excellent. Couldn’t finish and for £31 value for money. The Chablis was a good accompaniment.

Went for a traditional Sunday Roast when visiting from the US. Top notch flavor on the chicken roast, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Topped it off with amazing sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommend. Elevated pub atmosphere.

Best roast I’ve had in London!! The roast at Fox and Anchor was up there with one of the best I’ve had out and it’s so reasonably priced (£20 - £24 per person), the portions sizes were really decent, you get a huge Yorkshire pudding and lots of vegetables too. I had the vegetarian roast and my friends got the beef and pork and we were all blown away. Could not recommend more, we will be going back!
