About Montcalm East Autograph Collection by Marriott

Breakfast at Montcalm East, Autograph Collection by Marriott, comes with a broad choice of options, and the Marlowe restaurant provides a proper base for dinner or a drink at the bar afterwards, with room service and packed lunches available for guests who prefer to eat on their own schedule. A snack bar and in-room drinks cover the gaps in between.

The hotel has 269 rooms spread across 17 floors, all en-suite with air conditioning, and many guests note the heated bathroom floors and effective climate control as a welcome touch. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, along with a bridal suite for those marking an occasion, and staff are on hand through concierge and porter services. There's an indoor swimming pool, gym, and spa with sauna on-site, though the spa areas aren't always kept to the same standard as the rest of the hotel.

Set on City Road, the hotel sits within reach of Shoreditch and Old Street, with restaurants, pubs and entertainment nearby for evenings out. Meeting rooms and business services suit those travelling for work, while laundry service and luggage storage take care of practical needs. There's no on-site parking, so plan transport accordingly, though airport transfers can be arranged.

My partner & I stayed at Montcalm East on the weekend of my 30th birthday. They surprised us with a bottle of rose, rose petals, balloons, a note and some sweet treats. We also had our slippers & robes in the room which added so much comfort. From check in, we were given a great experience, being handed a glass of pink Prosecco & Pago juice at the front by Guest Services. This hotel is so well thought out, they make every effort to ensure guest experience, if you ask for something, they give you it as long as they can. Unfortunately, a few minor things in our room weren’t working such as some of the USB ports, the alarm clock and it got in the way slightly here and there. We also found some of our complimentary items in our room opened & used such as the sewing kit and a random ripped carrier bag. We also didn’t realise that we needed a physical card to check in, (which my partner didn’t have), so I had to use mine which he didn’t really want me to do on my birthday. We also found the gym equiptment to be surprisingly basic for the type of hotel. Finally, on Sunday morning, I called down to the spa to go and get a massage for my birthday, maybe lounge around in the facilities. The staff member that picked up was very blasé, didn’t really care that it was my birthday and said there was no massaging running which was a huge shame, it was the main reason we chose Montcalm. I’d have otherwise given service a 5 star rating as opposed to 3. Finally, a special thank you to whoever worked with my partner on the room, and the two men on check in, especially Billy who took our bags up, checked in on us, showed us around and always helped to take a nice photo!

SONAL at the front desk is the epitome of why I’ve enjoyed my stay at Montcalm East enough to have tried to extend my stay for an extra week from the first day of my stay a few nights ago. She is so thoughtful and sweet, and has made me feel like a friend. I will be back at this hotel next year, on my next long term trip to London, and have recommended the hotel to my colleagues from work, who are staying at other Marriott Bonvoy accommodations in London. By the end of my stay, I’ll have been here for seven nights, some on my own and some with family, and tried out a couple different room types. Housekeeping is fairly consistent, and the pool services are a pleasant incorporation to a typical urban accommodation. The service at this hotel is key - the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating (the customer/guest must also be kind and considerate, of course), emphasizing the customer. From the welcome juice bottles to the concierge dutifully taking care of luggage, from comp drinks if there is a delayed check-in to quiet halls at night, I recommend this hotel. Again, thank you to SONAL, JANESH, DANIELLA, and ADEL at the front desk, and SHERVIN and BILLY at concierge. Everyone is so sweet and considerate! Thank you!

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Hotel location - great. Very close to tube or bus station from where you can go anywhere in and outside of London. Plenty of places to eat or drink nearby. Staff - friendly and accomodating. Rooms - size ok, bit dark but unfortunately quite worn down. You can see it on the furniture as well as the overall condition of doors, shower floors etc. Overall clean but found hair on bed and towels which is a no go. Amenities are ok. For the price you pay, I expected more. Luckily I used my points to book but even then it's too expensive for what you get. No lounge at disposal either. For just a few more points and similar price I could have stayed at another Marriott partner hotel which is located more centrally and providing overall more value for money. If I need to stay in this specific area, I might return, but other than that not.

Hotel is in a great location and easy to get to underground. We had family suite which was large enough for family of four with two rooms and two bathrooms. Only wished they had two twin beds since kids like separate beds. Luckily they sent us a roll a way bed. Overall staff is great and gym/pool/sauna were amazing. Highly recommend this place if staying in London.
