About The Grand at Trafalgar Square
Northumberland Avenue runs straight down from Trafalgar Square towards the Thames, and it's on this handsome stretch that The Grand at Trafalgar Square makes its home. The location is hard to beat for anyone wanting to be within walking distance of the capital's major sights, with the square itself, theatreland and the river all close by, plus plenty of restaurants, pubs and other eateries on the surrounding streets.
The hotel has 63 rooms, including family and accessible options, all with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, and some with kitchenettes for guests who want a bit more flexibility. Rooms are kept quiet despite the busy location, though a number are noticeably dated and could do with updating. Staff are consistently helpful, and touches such as free filtered water and a guest lounge add to the sense of being looked after.
There's a restaurant and bar on site, along with breakfast, a gym, laundry facilities and free WiFi throughout, plus meeting rooms and business services for those travelling with work in mind. The hotel also handles weddings, and a small garden offers a rare patch of green so close to the centre of town. Luggage storage and concierge services make it an easy base for exploring on foot, with entertainment and dining options right on the doorstep.

A Memorable Stay in a Beautiful Historic Hotel Our stay at The Grand Hotel was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the beauty and history of this magnificent building. It feels like staying in a grand historic palace, with stunning wood paneling, ornate ceilings, and timeless elegance. The hotel perfectly blends historic charm with modern comfort. The location could not be better. It is just a short walk from the Underground, making it incredibly convenient to explore London. Many of the city’s historic landmarks, excellent shopping areas, and wonderful restaurants are all within walking distance. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and very well maintained. The breakfast each morning was delicious. Rose and the breakfast staff managed the breakfast area so efficiently. One of our favorite features—and something we have never experienced at another hotel—was the Club Living Room. It is an elegant, spacious lounge where guests can relax throughout the day. Complimentary coffee, tea, milk, and everything needed for a hot drink are always available. Whether meeting friends, reading a book, or simply relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing, it is a wonderful place to spend time. The hotel also has a very nice fitness center with excellent equipment. After walking all over London each day, we were usually too tired to use it, but on a longer stay I would definitely enjoy exercising there. What made our stay even more special was the outstanding hospitality of the staff. We would especially like to thank Maya, Carolina, and Cameron at reception for their kindness, professionalism, and warm welcome. Cameron went especially above and beyond by personally helping me get the ice I needed. Her thoughtfulness and willingness to help meant so much and truly reflected the exceptional level of service at this hotel. We highly recommend The Grand Hotel to anyone visiting London. If you appreciate beautiful historic architecture, an unbeatable location, outstanding service, delicious breakfast, and thoughtful amenities, this hotel is an excellent choice. We would gladly stay here again and look forward to returning.

We stayed at the nearby Royal Horseguards for many years, but on our last visit (18 months ago) it was starting to look a bit worn. So this trip we tried the nearby Grand (since we enjoy the neighborhood so much). Several reviews mentioned that the rooms were dated, but ours was newly remodeled and beautiful. In fact we were very happy with every aspect of the Grand. The service was wonderful, everything was clean... the shower was wonderful... nothing at all to complain about. We will stay again on our next trip.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ We stayed here for a couple of nights and overall had a good experience. One thing that stands out is the history of the building. It’s an older property with plenty of character, which gives it a different feel than many modern hotels. The rooms were comfortable but definitely on the smaller side, especially if you’re used to hotel rooms in the United States. That said, this is fairly typical for central London, so it’s important to set expectations accordingly. A nice bonus was the bar downstairs, which had a good selection of drinks and was a great place to relax after a day of exploring the city. My advice for future travelers: choose this hotel for its location, history, and charm rather than expecting oversized rooms. If you appreciate historic properties and want to be in a great part of London, it’s a solid option. 🍸🏨🇬🇧

The positives first: The lobby is genuinely stunning and creates a great first impression. Check‑in was quick and efficient, and the staff throughout my stay were consistently friendly, professional, and helpful. My room was spacious and the bed was incredibly comfortable — I slept extremely well. Temperature control was easy to use and conveniently placed bedside, and the Nespresso machine was a nice touch. The fitness centre was also surprisingly good for a hotel of this type; I was able to get through a full push routine without issue, as long as you don’t mind using a Smith machine. However, several details let the experience down. The room, while large, didn’t feel particularly special. Small things added up: plug sockets weren’t located next to the bed, which made charging devices inconvenient, and the bathroom had lotion placed where the hand soap should have been. Not major issues, but noticeable at this price point. The biggest disappointment by far was breakfast. The scrambled eggs were so overcooked they were almost the consistency of a quiche, and the rest of the hot food was lukewarm at best. A colleague described the sausages as practically cold. Overall, the quality felt low — I regularly have better breakfasts in hotels ranked far lower. For the additional ~£20, I’d honestly recommend skipping the hotel breakfast entirely and heading to a local café instead. Another unexpected downside was the in‑room “goodies.” At a hotel of this level, I would expect at least some complimentary items, but none were included. It felt out of step with the price and with Club Quarters’ usual reputation.
