About The Royal Foundation of St Katharine
Breakfast, a restaurant and a bar all feature at The Royal Foundation of St Katharine, a 36-room hotel on Butcher Row in London's East End, close to Tower Bridge and the Thames. A snack bar adds a more casual option, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout for anyone working between meals.
Rooms here are modern despite the building's history as a charitable retreat, and guests have access to a chapel and garden that set it apart from a typical city hotel. There's a lift for easier access, plus luggage storage and a laundry service for those staying longer or breaking up a trip.
Meeting rooms and business services make it a practical choice for those combining work with a stay, and free on-site parking is a rare bonus this close to central London. Entertainment, pubs and restaurants nearby give plenty of options beyond the property itself, with Tower Bridge and the Thames both within easy reach.

What guests say
I attended an event here and lunch was provided. The lunch menu offered a choice of lamb, fish, or a vegetarian main, served with either rice or roasted potatoes and a side of mixed green vegetables. There were three types of salads, tomatoes, mixed leaves and chick peas. Vey healthy! For dessert, there was fruit salad and carrot cake, both of which were delicious. In fact, all the food was very enjoyable and well prepared. The coffee provided during the event was unfortunately quite watery and disappointing, so I was pleased to find coffee available in the lunch room. While it wasn’t quite as good as the coffee at Yurt Café, it was a definite improvement and actually tasted like coffee. Overall, I had a positive experience and would love to return to try their Sunday roast in the future. As I didn’t stay over night, I cannot review rooms, but all common rooms looked very clean and well looked after, so I gave 4.

This place seems to receive a lot of good reviews but I'm at a loss as to why. My experience was anything but good. It has a 3* rating but personally I think it's struggling to make 1*. The only good thing I have to say about the place is that the bed was comfortable. The room was small as was the bathroom and shower. The storage space provided consided of 5 hangers on a bar protruding from the wall. No wardrobe and no drawer space at all anywhere in the room. So basically you had to live out of a suitcase , which incidentally you had to either do from the floor or put it on the bed . It was around the low 30C's and there was no air conditioning and the fan provided was less than adequate. There was a runner carpet in the room which was dirty and looking at it has seen better days....it needs replacing. I suppose if you are staying 1 night arriving late, leaving early with just a rucksack and don't want to sleep on a park bench, then it may be an option. Oh almost forgot, the provided continental breakfast wasn't exactly brilliant either. I have actually stayed in much better youth hostels than this place ...so be warned .

Disappointing stay. I paid more than £250 per night for a superior king room (booked well in advance). First of all the room did not have air conditioning (apparently only some in the structure do), which was very unfortunate giving there were 33 degrees in London. The room is smaller than what it looks in the photos (glad we only had two backpacks or I'm not sure where we would have fitted proper luggages) and the bathroom is quite minimal and dated (looks more like a hostel bathroom). Breakfast wasnt great, with bread clearly coming from the freezer and possibly the overnight oats too. Bed was big as advertised and staff was nice. But overall it feels like I most definitely overpaid and I would not go back.

Truly a tiny oasis in the midst of London's 'East End', with a beautiful courtyard filled with tree, roses and wildlife. Fabulous friendly team who did all in their power to enable all of us for the conference and overnight stay. Food - good range and again, team did all they could to cater for varied needs. Rooms - comfy bed, but tiny 'triangular' shower in mine, very hard pillows, and very rough towels. But, this isn't a five star hotel and these are pretty minor considerations given all that went very well. It's London. Don't expect total quiet.
