About The Standard London

Two hundred and sixty-six rooms fill The Standard London, a hotel built around bold design and a lively ground floor rather than a quiet retreat. Set at 10 Argyle Street, it puts King's Cross and Bloomsbury within easy reach, useful for anyone arriving by train or heading into central London for work or sightseeing.

Rooms come with air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms and drinks available in-room, and accessible rooms are available for those who need them. Guests staying for special occasions can book the bridal suite or arrange VIP facilities, and the hotel also operates as a wedding venue. Breakfast is served on-site and has proved a highlight, alongside a restaurant, bar, snack bar and outdoor seating in the garden.

Beyond the rooms, facilities extend to a gym, laundry service, luggage storage and 24-hour reception, with pets welcome throughout. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, though service is not always even across the board. Pubs, bars and restaurants sit nearby for evenings out, making the Argyle Street address a practical base for exploring King's Cross and beyond.

I stayed here for a night before a very early train the next morning. The room was a bit over $500 US, which is around what I’d been paying at the Hyatt Regency Churchill the nights prior. The downstairs and bar area are very cool and well-styled. The check-in was fine and the person at the front desk was lovely. The room itself was kind of gross. There was a wool? blanket with other peoples’ hairs on it on the bed, so it had obviously not been washed. The carpet was somehow… sticky? and the room’s electricity did not work when I got in (I went to the desk and someone came to fix it, but it set back my bedtime by ~20 minutes). I also found the amenity mini bar with items related to intercourse for sale to be incredibly tacky and they were selling other items that would be complimentary at any other hotel in this price range that looked to be crumpled and worn. I slept super poorly— the shower kept turning on and leaking water or something and there were other noises throughout the night. Overall I would not stay here again and find it offensive that the room was more than $500, particularly comparing it to other hotels in this range in the area. For the price of $500 and because it claims to be a 5-star hotel, I would expect a much better experience.

I visited The Standard London for a special trip with my mother. While the hotel has a cool aesthetic and a great location, the experience was unfortunately far from five-star, and the customer service since has been disappointing. The Positives: The proximity to the train station was highly convenient for our onward travel, and the breakfast was a genuine highlight every day. Excellent food options and great service. The Negatives: We encountered a severe, foul sewage smell emanating from our bathtub. It was so overpowering that we had to alert the front desk twice in a single night. Instead of permanently moving us to a functional room, we were merely given a temporary room to "rest our heads" in for a few hours that night after our second complaint. We lost a night of sleep on a very expensive trip, and the smell lingered on subsequent days. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected management to proactively offer some type of remediation - whether a partial refund, a voucher, or a credit - for a completely compromised night. When I reached out to management directly via email to resolve this privately, they never got back to me. A true five-star hotel centers customer service and takes accountability when things go wrong. The Standard London did neither. I feel completely overpaid for the experience.

I enjoyed my stay as part of a Chase Edit Hotel reservation, which includes daily breakfast & $100(£75) onsite credit for restaurant & bar charges, excluding service which must be paid separately. The breakfast was of an above average quality, except for the chef wanting to provide their own lima baked bean concoction, instead of good old Heinz baked beans 😳 My room was reserved for two, but one morning I dined alone at breakfast. As ‘complimentary’ breakfast included ONE hot drink, when I ordered a latte after my tea, I was charged for it, even though if my wife had joined me, we would have been entitled to two hot drinks & two breakfast entrees. This seemed a little penny pinching. I had dinner in their Isla restaurant and it was very good (I’ll write a separate review). Rooms are not the largest (Queen deluxe), but they provided everything I needed along with very good quality of sleep on a comfortable bed. My primary ‘minimal’ gripe is the 5% ‘discretionary’ accommodation service charge (more penny pinching?) which I had removed from the bill. The receptionist was understanding but tried to justify it by saying all premium hotels now add this in London. I book based on an advertised rate and that’s what I expect to pay. If I receive any service above & beyond what I believe should be delivered for the price paid, I give a gratuity in person. If the hotel ‘needs’ this to pay the staff, then ADD IT to the room rate ! The hotel is in an excellent location for Kings Cross, St Pancras and a few minutes walk to Euston. They also provided excellent support after my stay in getting my suitcase collected by a courier company to be delivered elsewhere. I would return, at the appropriate rate.

The Standard manages to achieve something surprisingly difficult: it feels both stylish and genuinely welcoming. The design is outstanding. Bold, playful, and full of personality, yet never overwhelming. Every corner of the hotel feels thoughtfully considered, from the public spaces to the guest rooms. The location opposite King’s Cross is incredibly convenient, but what makes the hotel memorable is the atmosphere. There is a sense of energy throughout the building without it ever feeling chaotic. The staff are consistently friendly and professional, and the service strikes that perfect balance between attentive and relaxed. Whether you’re staying overnight, meeting friends for drinks, or spending time in one of the restaurants, The Standard feels like a place people genuinely enjoy being in, and that is harder to achieve than most luxury hotels realise.
