About Fauhope House

Fauhope House is an Arts and Crafts house built in 1897 for a Glasgow shipping magnate, set in thirteen acres of bluebell woodland on high ground above the Tweed valley near Gattonside, a short distance from Melrose. It is run as a five-star bed and breakfast by its owners, who live in the house and manage the small number of guest rooms personally.

Bedrooms are individually decorated and generously sized, most with views across the valley towards the Eildon Hills, and the house retains many original Arts and Crafts features including fireplaces and joinery. Breakfast is served in a dining room looking out over the gardens, built around local and often home-produced ingredients.

The setting is genuinely secluded, reached by a private drive above the village, yet Melrose town centre and the abbey are only a few minutes away by car. Fauhope suits couples looking for a quiet, personally run stay rather than a hotel, with the owners well placed to advise on local walks including the Eildon Hills and St Cuthbert's Way.

What a wonderful people and care. The room was extremely comfortable and host even made up a hot water bottle for my back pain (on going disability nothing to do with our stay). We felt so well cared for. Best eggs benadict I have had in years. Heartly recommend

Stunning accommodations. The house and grounds are beautiful, decorated with an eye for beauty and perfectly idyllic. My room was lovely, with a large en suite bath and a most comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent, cooked to order with local and house made items, served at a stunning table. Sheila and Ian are the consummate hosts, so caring and kind. I highly recommend Fauhope and can’t wait to return.

This accommodation is simply superb. Large country house that sits in extensive well keep grounds looking into the hills. The decor is exquisite. Bedrooms are very large with a large comfortable bed. Ensuit bathroom is a great size and has everything that one could possibly need. Breakfast fabulous. Fresh fruits supplied from the garden with great quality cooked foods. Owners lovely and friendly making you feel at home. Highly recommend this gem.

A fantastic place to stay. It is very much a country house, from the setting to all the rooms. The rooms are to the highest standard, with everything you could possibly need. The bed we had was huge and comfy. The view was second to none. The room very much for the style of a country house which was superb. The breakfast was perfection. Homemade condiments (I highly recommend the homemade marmalade) and everything cooked perfectly. Again, the view whilst eating was amazing. The host couldn't do enough and obviously took great pride in what they do. They have a great knowledge of the area and keen to suggest places to go and try. We will definetly be back and next time for longer than one night.
