Couples and small families will find The Hideaway a self-contained retreat on the edge of Fordingbridge, in the heart of the New Forest. This single-storey wooden lodge sits at the rear of grounds steeped in history—the main house once housed a wheelwright's workshop, post office and bakery in the 1830s. You get the whole property to yourself, with a double bedroom, a bathroom with bath and shower, and a living space that includes a sofa bed to sleep two more. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included.

The setting works well for people who want to explore the area without being in the thick of a village. Fordingbridge itself—about a mile away—has shops, cafés and the River Avon running through it. From here, you can walk straight into the New Forest's network of footpaths and commons, or cycle to the Avon Valley Path which stretches towards Christchurch. The New Forest Water Park and Moors Valley Country Park, both close by, offer everything from waterskiing to treetop adventures and a miniature railway. If you're visiting with another couple or family, two other cottages share the grounds, letting you holiday separately but nearby. The property sits back from the main road between Salisbury and Ringwood, with parking for two cars and a sitting-out area overlooking the shared lawned grounds. No smoking inside.

Personally the best place to stay in the area. Was visiting family and friends in the new forest. Would definitely recommend!

Stayed here for three nights in Feb, family of three two adults and a 7 year old. Was a nice place to stay, had everything you could need and was a good base for exploring the forest. Owners were great, leaving bits in the hideaway for drinks and eggs, milk, bread etc and making everyone feel welcome. Will definitely look at staying again when next exploring down that way

The studio/cottage was next to busy road but we were not unduly disturbed. Room is OK but not lavish. Only a single easy chair and shower room is miniscule. Good value for money.
