About Premier inn Newcastle City Centre The Gate

A hearty breakfast and an attached restaurant and bar make Premier Inn Newcastle City Centre The Gate a straightforward base for a night in the city, with food and drink available on site rather than needing to be sought out. The 184 rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and a good bed, and some are fitted for accessible use, though a handful of rooms have been reported as showing their age or not always kept to the same standard.

The hotel sits on Newgate Street in Grainger Town, close to The Gate entertainment complex and the Theatre Royal, with pubs, bars and restaurants all within easy reach. A lift serves the four floors, and reception is staffed around the clock, while drinks can be brought to the room and there's an electric vehicle charge point on site.

Parking isn't included at the hotel itself, but chargeable parking is available nearby at Q-Park Stowell Street, about two minutes on foot. The Metro gives straightforward access out to Newcastle Airport, and the central position means most of the city's theatre, dining and nightlife is within walking distance.

Premier inns are aways the go to because standards are high and the rooms are consistent and that from a hotel chain is always the best. However my expectations have been exceeded. The girl on front desk straight away offered me help, she was super friendly and thoughtful and asked me if I needed things before I even thought I needed them. The lady in question was Sarah. She's brilliant really brightened my day and made a very transactional interaction memorable. Thank you Sarah for your lovely chat about Torchwood, you know who you are. Keep shining you little star.

Excellent location but the room needs some tlc. Toilet seat is loose, one curtain was on the floor; it was a tension rod so I've put it back as high up as I can reach, there's what looks like blood on the curtain and there are little black marks on the duvet cover. However stayed here a number of times and this is the first time we've had a room with issues. We're also on the main front side and can only hear the odd car going past.

This is in an excellent location, built in the old coop building a stones throw from St James Park. The bed was comfortable but the room was messy and the bathroom dispensers were damaged and filthy. The staff were there to help with booking in but keeping a low profile most of the time. The girl at breakfast more interested in her phone than the customer.
