About Sandman Signature Newcastle Hotel

A substantial modern hotel with 170 rooms, Sandman Signature Newcastle Hotel occupies a prominent spot on Gallowgate, right by St James' Park stadium, giving many rooms a direct view over the pitch. The building's scale means it can comfortably handle everything from overnight stays to weddings, with the sort of full facilities you'd expect from a hotel of this size.

Rooms come with air conditioning, drinks available in-room, and free WiFi, and beds are consistently well-regarded for comfort. Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar, breakfast service, a gym, and an indoor swimming pool, while porter services take care of luggage. Being close to a football stadium and city-centre streets, some rooms do pick up noise on match days or busy evenings, worth bearing in mind when booking.

The location is a genuine strength, with the city centre and transport links within easy reach, plus nearby pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues for evenings out. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. Pets are welcome, making this a practical base for a range of trips to Newcastle.

First problem, I pre booked the room . Money didn’t come out my account. I asked why and they said the money would be taken that night; it didn’t - 2 days later I got an email at 3 in the morning saying my room was cancelled! I was travelling down from Aberdeen with a 3 month old baby , so as you can imagine this caused a bit of stress, phoned hotel and managed to re book at a higher price than I originally agreed , tried to pay over the phone but they said my bank card wasn’t working, got to the hotel and paid with said bank card which was weird ! We booked the junior suite thinking it would be a better room, the hotel in Aberdeen is pure luxury, so I presumed the same would be of the Newcastle one, got to hotel and went through the disabled bit and thought yeah this hotel is going to be really nice The room was tiny, dated and the TVs casting didnt work. I took my baby sterliser and bottle making machine, tried to wash the bottle and no hot water came out of the tap; so had to use the kettle to fill the sink with hot water The shower didn’t have hot water. It was freezing cold, didn’t matter which way you turned the knob. Then after 10 mins or so it went boiling hot. The bathroom floor got flooded because the drain was no use - had to dry it all with the towels. Left the towel on the floor and came back to them still on the floor and no housekeeping had been - went to reception and was told the housekeeping was only it was requested - how was I supposed to know this?! No air con in the room. The room was about 100 degrees with only one small window to open and two old fans that circulated hot air Then my ticket never got validated properly and ended up costing £47 for two nights ! The hotel staff was all really nice and helpful overall. But the room itself was a total let down , the location was perfect though , I would probably not stay in the Newcastle one again unless you could get a better room with working hot water

LED joy, wheelchair access, fantastic staff. Thank you Sarah and everyone at the hotel for a wonderful stay. Would come back. Has beautiful separate level access entrance, which is a short tunnel - all white tiles, silver sequins and colour change LEDs. I loved it. Beautiful modern foyer area. Staff really friendly and welcoming, but not 'too helpful' in that way people sometimes are with us disabled people - they check what you need. Beautiful spacious room even for medium sized powered wheelchair, and RM 116 you can pull right up to the right side of the bed. Shower room had separate shower chair. Great sink mirrors etc. Full mini kitchen and sofabed that doesn't get in the way.

We recently stayed here and overall had a really pleasant experience. We were greeted by Ben. Our room had a fantastic view overlooking St James’ Park stadium, which was a real highlight. The room itself was lovely and well-presented, and the bed was incredibly comfortable — we both had a great night’s sleep. There were just a few minor drawbacks. The room only had one window that opened slightly, which made it quite warm at times — not ideal for anyone who struggles in the heat. Additionally, the bathroom light switch was broken, although this didn’t impact our stay too much. We also noticed some noise from neighbouring rooms, including toilets flushing, showers running, and the lift, which could be heard at times. Breakfast was a bit of a letdown compared to the rest of the experience. A lot of the food had a slightly tangy taste, and the apple and orange juices tasted watered down rather than pure. My partner also struggled to find anything he liked due to personal taste preferences. The tea provided in the room wasn’t very nice either, and unfortunately had to be poured away. Despite these small issues, we would definitely stay again. The comfort of the room and the amazing view really made up for it.

Hotel is in a great location. We were going for a show at the O2 City Hall and it was a 12 minute easy walk away. Theres also loads of restaurants and other activities a quick walk away. Staff at the hotel are lovely and will help you quickly, no complaints there. Feel like for such a modern hotel the rooms feel a little in need of TLC. We were in an executive suite but things like the sockets not matching, the paint peeling, the kitchen have only one of each wine glass just took the shine off it. The breakfast wasnt worth the money for me, no decent coffee (just an urn) the food felt less than fresh when we came down, so the second day we had breakfast out. Overall a comfy stay, perfect location. Just felt from the loveliness of the staff and the foyer the rooms could feel more polished and the breakfast more luxury!
