RV park in North Yorkshire beside a lake with space for paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming.
About Ellerton Park Caravan Site
Ellerton Park is an RV park set on the banks of a lake in North Yorkshire. The pitches overlook water that draws people for paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming, with plenty of shaded spots around the site for a break or a picnic. Showers and toilets are on site.
The lake itself is the draw here – it is large enough that water sports feel genuinely spacious rather than crowded, and the water is clear. SUP Active Yorkshire, which runs paddleboarding sessions, is just a few minutes' walk away. The Ellerton Lakeside Cafe is also nearby if you want a meal without leaving the immediate area.

What visitors say
Lovely place. A massive lake with loads of space. We visited on a boiling hot day, so were glad of the many shady spots to lay a blanket and have a picnic. First-time visitors should note that life vests are strictly compulsory for all paddle boarders. Highly recommended, will visit again.

At its best a great site for swimming with clear clean water; can get quite weedy when the water levels drop and the plants come through. Changing rooms are mediocre and pokey. Staff rudeness comes as standard. To not have any other means of payment than cash in 2026 is ludicrous and archaic; I can't remember the last time I used an ATM. Time to invest and enter the 21st century.

2nd time visiting and it seems the rude (military) women proceeds her reputation. You can't fall off your paddleboard and be in the water, you should remain on paddleboards at all times otherwise you will be tracked down and told off. On such hot days, like today, people want to be able to cool off in the water and enjoy their day. Heard many others complaining about not being able to get wet, cool down, and have fun and saw lots of children being told off for having fun. Will probably try visiting other paddleboard sites in the future. It was great last time being able to cool down in the water in such hot weather. I understand having rules for health and safety but equally people should be able to have fun and enjoy their day out. Everyone seemed respectful, wore their life jackets as per rules.
