About Black Horse Inn

Step into one of the seven rooms at Black Horse Inn and you'll find a spacious, comfortably furnished space with an en-suite bathroom, a far cry from a standard roadside stop. Rooms come with drinks available on request and the option of room service, and family rooms are on offer for those travelling with children. Free WiFi runs throughout, and 24 hour reception means arrival times are never a worry.

Downstairs, the inn centres on its restaurant and bar, serving generous meals including a well-regarded Sunday lunch and a proper cooked breakfast, with kids' meals available too. There's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days, and the whole place has a genuinely welcoming, pub-like atmosphere backed by staff who are quick to help. Dogs are welcome, and free on-site parking includes motorhome spaces with electric hookups, a rare and useful feature for touring guests.

Set on Lumley Lane in Northallerton, the inn puts guests within reach of the Yorkshire Moors and Mount Grace Priory, with walking routes, horse riding and further pubs and restaurants nearby. It's a straightforward, well-run base for exploring North Yorkshire rather than a destination in itself.

Lovely village inn just a couple of miles from the A1. Plenty of parking. Rooms are all race horse themed. We stayed in Best Mate, a room in the Coach House, just a few steps from the pub. It was extremely comfortable, very spacious. We had dinner in the bar area, next to a roaring fire. Food was excellent. Good selection of ales. Staff all really friendly and helpful. Breakfast next morning was tasty and very generous. Our stay was really well priced, great value. We will certainly be staying again on our next journey north.

Came with family for a lunch, my mum asked the lady on reception if they had any vegan options (I have a dairy intolerance so tend to just go for vegan options when out), the woman on reception showed us the menu and pointed to a risotto with feta in.. As we were led to our table we could hear the staff at reception loudly hissing and going NO VEGANS followed by more hissing etc. Incredibly unprofessional and made me feel really uncomfortable in the space and having a meal. It’s 2026 not 1926, people have different dietary requirements - no matter your opinion you should keep this to yourself. Food for everyone aside from myself was fine, the vegan option was pretty basic but edible. The waitress was perfectly nice but the whole experience was tarred by the staff on reception.

My daughter and I stayed in Dawn Run in the coach house, it had 1 very comfortable double bed and a separate bedroom with a single bed which was really set up for a child but my adult daughter loved it and said it was extremely comfortable, both rooms had tv and were lovely and warm, overall this was one of the most elegant and stylish rooms I have stayed in. Good sized bathroom, powerful shower, lovely and clean, bonus capsule coffee maker. We chose to eat in the restaurant, the staff were lvery helpful, plenty of gluten free options, we had a delicious meal, the only niggle being that the restaurant was a little dark. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
