Taylor’s Cottage

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Whitby remains one of England's most distinctive seaside towns, perched on the North Yorkshire coast where the cliffs are layered with Jurassic fossils and the streets wind down to a working harbour. Taylor's Cottage sits within this setting, a Grade II listed property dating from 1640, accessed via a peaceful yard off the main streets. The approach involves seven stone steps and an internal winding staircase—typical of properties this old—which means the layout unfolds across three floors.

Ground floor holds an open-plan living and dining area with a kitchen equipped for real cooking: electric oven, gas hob and microwave. Upstairs, a double bedroom connects to a shower room with a rainfall shower. The second bedroom, tucked into the attic space, has two single beds and its own toilet and vanity. The property sleeps four and comes with essentials covered: bed linen, towels, heating, electricity and wi-fi. A shared back garden with patio and seating looks onto the yard, and there's a bike store for exploring further afield. One pet is welcome. Parking is available on-road, at cost.

From here you can walk the clifftop Cleveland Way towards Robin Hood's Bay, search rock pools, or spend an afternoon in the pubs and restaurants that line the harbour. The North York Moors and a 35-mile stretch of fossil-bearing beach—famous for Whitby Jet—are both within reach. Smoking is not permitted inside.
