The Pirate’s Palace

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Whitby's seafaring history inspired the decor of The Pirate's Palace, a sprawling 1860s townhouse spread across three floors. The restored Victorian property retains original features—stained-glass door panels, a plaster ceiling rose—but has been rewired and redecorated throughout. Eight guests sleep across four bedrooms, with two bathrooms and a shower room. The whole place is yours alone, arranged around a central staircase that climbs past a first-floor living area, second-floor bedrooms and bathroom, and third-floor bedrooms.

The living room faces the front with bay windows framing views across Whitby towards the abbey headland and sea beyond. A woodburner sits ready for cooler evenings, and the room has Sky TV with Netflix. The kitchen-diner sits behind, equipped for cooking proper meals—electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, slow cooker, coffee machine. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are all included; logs for the burner are provided too. There's parking for one car on site and space for more on the road outside.

The Railway Chippy is within easy reach on foot, and the town's shops, restaurants and the famous steps up to the abbey are close by. The property suits families and groups of friends rather than parties. Children can use a travel cot, highchair and stairgate if needed.
