The Town House I

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

The Town House I sits on Scarborough's historic seafront, within a minute of the beach and surrounded by the working harbour, promenade and traditional seaside attractions. The building itself dates to the 1500s and contains a smuggler's tunnel running down to the shore—a reminder of centuries past. Downstairs, an Irish pub and folk club occupy the ground floor; the property itself spreads across five storeys with its own bar in the open-plan lounge and dining area, making it a natural gathering space for groups.

Five bedrooms sleep 12 across multiple floors, with four bathrooms including ensuite facilities. The layout means flexibility—double beds on the first and second floors, single beds on the upper storeys. Three of the bedrooms look out towards the sea. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering: electric cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and everything needed to prepare meals. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are included; a travel cot and highchair are available on request.

This suits large family groups or gatherings of friends. Bars and restaurants are within walking distance, and the main shopping street runs just uphill. Smoking is not permitted inside. Parking is on-road (permit required) or in the nearby public car park at cost. The ground-floor pub does generate some noise as part of the building's character.
