I stayed here in my campervan during the May Bank Holiday heatwave, a few weeks ago. It's cheap and cheerful - an ideal setup if you want to wild camp legally with back to basics facilities and a fantastic view. There are two connected fields, with porta-loos and water taps at various points throughout. The owner, Richard, is very friendly and welcoming. The wild camping experience is reduced a little by the popularity of the site. That being said, it was a very sunny, hot bank holiday, so may not always be this busy. There's still plenty of room between tents/campers; others staying don't feel too close even though there are no pitches as such - you set up wherever you want. Because it is a relaxed site, there was noise and music until fairly late. Again, largely expected given the date/weather. I've knocked one star off because the porta-loos ran out of toilet roll and hand sanitiser. Not a big deal, but would have been nice.

What a gem, as it says wild camping, but it does have portoloos and fresh water, you can hire log burners & buy logs, Richard or his brothers will drop them off at your tent or motorhome. The views are stunning, you can see for miles plenty of choices on where to park/camp, child & dog friendly. Richard and his team are brilliant, nothing too much trouble and his banter is amazing. Local pub 5 mins walk away. We will definately stay again

Best camping experience we’ve had as a family! The Owner went above and beyond for us, especially when our son decided to tip the full bag of coal on the bbq! He drove to get us more coal and wood so we had plenty for the rest of our stay. His hospitality was outstanding! He made us feel welcome, safe and settled. The owner monitors the camping on a regular basis. (even after sun set) knowing there was a close eye on camp, this allowed us to feel content and able to rest peacefully. We had no disturbances throughout the night, we woke feeling fresh. This is the first campsite I have felt safe enough to return without my partner, with our young children. Thank you for our stay! We will for sure be back!

Fantastic site, local pub is lovely and there is so much in the area to do. We came up to go to Beamish but would have been happy sat in the campsite for 3 days TBH. The view of the sunset at night is unreal and the 2 brothers running the place are incredible
