Northumberland

Alnwick sits at the edge of the Northumberland countryside, and Heckley Cottage occupies 14 acres of natural woodland just two miles north of the town. The coast is four miles away. The property itself is a single-storey stone building with its own large enclosed garden, where views open across open countryside. A bike store sits on the grounds if you want to explore the estate or venture further afield on two wheels.

Inside, everything is on one level. Three bedrooms sleep five: two have kingsize beds and Freeview televisions, while the third has a single bed. The bathroom includes a bath, shower cubicle and heated towel rail. The living and dining room centres on a wood burner, with a sofa, Freeview TV and DVD player, and French doors leading to the garden. The kitchen has a breakfast area, electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave and washing machine, so you can prepare meals and manage laundry without fuss. Central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included; logs for the wood burner are provided too. There is parking for three cars on site.

This is a proper family base: the village pub and nearest shop are a mile and a half away, while golf and horse riding are close by. The coastline beyond Alnwick offers golden sandy beaches, and the town itself draws visitors to its castle and famous gardens. Children and one pet are welcome; smoking is not.

The cottage was lovely, and the setting was very peaceful. With lots of wildlife in the surrounding fields, the owners were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. The area's beaches, town's villages and castles are beautiful and amazing.

Really enjoyed staying there in a good location for. Aget away from a busy life short drive to the site around the area.
