Railway Cuttings

Kielder Forest and Water sit at the heart of what brings people to this corner of Northumberland—walking trails, cycling routes, and some of Britain's darkest night skies. Railway Cuttings stands in the village of Falstone, occupying what was once part of the Border Counties Railway line that connected England and Scotland. The pub is a ten-minute walk away, serving real ale and food; a small tea room and shop face it across the road. For serious stargazing, Kielder Observatory opens its telescope to visitors (booking ahead is essential).
The cottage itself is a stone semi-detached property on a single floor, giving you four bedrooms' worth of sleeping space—a king bed in one room, two singles in the other—plus one shower room. The living space flows from a sitting area with a Smart TV through to a dining zone and a kitchen equipped for actual cooking rather than reheating takeaways: electric oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, and a separate washer-dryer. Underfloor heating runs throughout. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included; you'll need to pay for electricity. There's parking for two cars on site, and you have the whole property to yourselves. One well-behaved pet can come along at no extra cost. Smoking is not permitted inside.

We stayed at No 1 Railway Cuttings. Kitchen fittings were impeccable - everything was easy to use, we had no problems with them at all. Same for the TV and broadband. Sofas and bed really comfy. It's an excellent place to stay if you want to explore a little of the surrounding area - the Falstone Circular Walk is a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. It's very dark at night, so be a good place for anyone with an interest in stargazing.

Super place. Thoroughly recommend if you're looking for somewhere quiet. No garden to speak of so bear in mind. We have two medium sized dogs. However, just a short hop from front door is a long driveway leading up to a gate to a private driveway and here I could let the dogs run and burn off some energy etc.The "public driveway" was very quiet. From accommodation easy to walk into village and also to walk along disused railway line.
