A Best Western Premier Collection hotel on Friar Lane, close to the castle and the main shopping streets, with a spa and indoor pool.
About St James Hotel
St James Hotel sits on Friar Lane, directly opposite the gardens leading up to Nottingham Castle and a short walk from the Old Market Square and the main Bridlesmith Gate shopping streets. It is part of Best Western's Premier Collection, and the building's Georgian frontage gives way to a more contemporary interior across its bedrooms, restaurant and bar.
Guests have use of a small spa with an indoor pool, sauna and steam room, unusual for a hotel this central, alongside a restaurant serving all-day dining and a cocktail bar that draws a local crowd as well as residents. Rooms range from compact standard doubles to larger suites, several looking out over the castle grounds.
The location is hard to beat for a first visit to Nottingham: the castle, City of Caves and Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem are all within a few minutes' walk, and the tram and rail station are a short, flat walk or quick taxi away.
What guests say
We visited for a Concert Hall gig at a time when the hotel is under a full renovation. Reception staff prompted us to a local restaurant which was offering 10% discount if you presented your room key from the hotel as the restaurant was closed. Really great location, easily walkable to the concert hall/theatre royal and good value for a city centre location. Lovely clean, comfy room despite the renovation and a good shower.

Hotel looks great quality and staff were fast and attentive. Room was as expected and worth the price. Check out at 11am is nice as don't have to rush as much as in some places. Slight let down as lifts looked like they were being renovated or fixed and some of the carpets were covered in celephane as work was being done in hallways. Didn't overly appreciate the early morning work (banging, drilling) noises but expect this is a unusual occurrence.

Couldn't fault the staff or the location. First class on both counts. Breakfast was also lovely for £15, there was lots to chose from and plenty of it. Only downside was the rooms were tired and could do with a little bit of a spruce up. Housekeeping were lovely and really helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel. Lovely bar area. The rooms were OK size. We had a basic room which was a little jaded. But perfectly functional. Decent coffee tea and biscuits. Car park was down a back alley but was secure. I am a terrible sleeper and there was a pillow spray to help you sleep which was a lovely touch.

Guests consistently praise this hotel for its friendly and helpful staff, excellent central location near the castle, and good value for money. The provision of good White Company toiletries, pillow spray, and a good breakfast selection further enhances the positive guest experience.
