About Corriemar House

Sea views from a Victorian townhouse set the tone at Corriemar House, on Corran Esplanade in Oban. Each room is decorated individually rather than to a set template, and many look out over the water or towards the surrounding hills, with mountain views adding to the outlook on clearer days.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and drinks provided, and a cooked breakfast is included each morning, served before guests head out for the day. There's free WiFi throughout, family rooms for those travelling together, a garden to sit in, and 24 hour reception for flexible arrivals. Free on-site parking is also available, which is useful given the coastal position.

Oban itself lies a short distance away by road, with Creach Bheinn nearby as a point of local interest. The area suits walkers and cyclists, and there's fishing, golf, horse riding and watersports within reach, along with pubs, restaurants and other eateries nearby for evenings out. It's a straightforward base for exploring Oban and the surrounding coastline.

We had a nice stay at Corriemar Guest House. We arrived late to check in (so many beautiful views to stop for in the highlands) so a key was left in an envelope for us. We were lucky to find a guest about to leave who showed is where the envelopes are kept and let us know the wifi password. We got the last parking spot but there was nearby street parking available. Our room was larger than we expected, it was actually a suite with a sitting room and bedroom. They provided liquid hand soap and shampoo which was nice too. (I personally prefer that over bar soap which gets thrown away after each guest leaves.) To check out, we left the keys in a basket. We never saw or spoke to anyone from the guest house but got messages before our stay.

PROS - The view is amazing! The location is only 1/2 mile walk from town, which is not bad at all unless it's cloudy and windy. The Owner/Manager woman is very friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable. Check in is easy and there is a little ice machine on 1st floor. CONS - Cars have to park double deep on the property and are often parked in. There's a "casual" approach to cleaning and maintenance. Cobwebs in stairwell windowsills, threadbare carpet on stairs that should be repaired. On our arrival a hair binder and peanut were in plain sight on the carpet in our "cleaned" room and the bathroom was "casually" clean. Lack of heat and no of privacy. There is no heat in reception or stairwells, and the heat was turned off in our room on arrival. It warmed up by bed time. The source in the room is 1 electric wall unit in a corner, without a blower so it takes a long time to heat the room. When we left for the day, we dialed down the heat but left it on so it would be somewhat warm when we returned and we wouldn't have to start from nothing to warm up after a cold and windy day in the town. - Nope. Corriemar staff apparently doesn't allow that. Even with "Do Not Disturb" on the door, someone slipped into our room and switched off the switch to heat unit so when we returned our room was cold! I have NEVER stayed anyplace, anywhere, where "Do Not Disturb" is not respected! It's even more astonishing that it was violated for the purpose of turning off our heat!

We were so fortunate to have found this place! Our rooms looked out over the bay and were charmingly furnished. The beds were comfortable and the price was right. The north dock and many pubs and eateries were within eat walking distance.

We stayed at Corriemar in May of 2025, and we still talk about it at least once a week. It was my favorite part of our vacation. The room was fabulous, the view was impeccable and the surrounding area was just what we needed. If I could move in, I would!
