What guests say
Although the guest house is clean and comfortable, we found it extremely off putting when we returned after day 1 to find all our belongings moved and tied away, our dirty clothes folded and mixed in with our clean clothes. Having worked in hospitality, this is not correct etiquette when tidying a guests rooms. I don't want strangers going through my underwear and belongings. This seems to be a repeated event after reading other reviews, and no breakfast included, extremely overpriced for just a room. BE WARNED!!!

Don’t be fooled by first impressions, the marquee sign may be broken, but this is a great location at the end of the esplanade, adjacent to the town’s parking lots. From the hotel it’s a quick walk into town with lots of restaurants, and having a pub next door is convenient. From the moment we entered, Robert was very friendly and warm. He recommended making reservations for dinner, said Oban has a year-round crowd due to the ferry traffic, and not just on weekend nights. The stairwell carpet might be a little frayed but those cheerful Hairy Coo portraits by Steven Brown that greet you and line the walls offer a colorful distraction. We were given a small room at the rear of the building, with a nice view of the hillside stacked with seafront Victorian houses. Rm 7’s walls looked a bit sad, but its interior as well as the bathroom were spotless. The sleek bathroom must have been a recent reno and the shower pressure was great. The towels were blindingly white and the bed linens of equal high quality. The day after we arrived our bed was completely stripped and remade, and the cleaners noticed we had a bottle of wine and thoughtfully left a couple of wine glasses for us. Our room was not soundproof; I could hear someone coughing at night in another room, but that’s to be expected in a Victorian building… and its age forgives a bit of shabbiness for convenience at a reasonable price. Overall, Sutherland House has the things that matter to me: good location, friendly service and a meticulously clean bedroom and bathroom.
