About The Old Cottage
A traditional stone cottage forms the heart of The Old Cottage, a small B&B in Kilmelford, within reach of Oban in Argyll and Bute. With only three rooms, the place keeps a homely, personal scale rather than the feel of a large hotel, and each room comes with its own en-suite bathroom, so guests get a proper private base after a day out.
Mornings start with breakfast, and rooms are supplied with drinks, while free WiFi keeps things easy for anyone catching up on messages. Outside, the garden and outdoor seating make the most of the setting, with views stretching over the garden itself and out to the sea beyond. Family rooms are available for those travelling together, and free on-site parking and 24 hour reception add practical convenience, along with luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures.
The surrounding area suits walkers and cyclists, with paths and routes nearby, while fishing, horse riding and watersports give more active options. Pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby mean evenings are easily filled without travelling far, and Oban itself remains within reach for wider sightseeing.

What guests say
Booked this place the night before arrival. Needed somewhere nice to stay on our way back down from Scotland. Both hosts were exceptional with a warmth of character. The room was spacious with very comfortable beds, powerful hot shower, and spotlessly clean. The area surrounding is silent so a very nice sleep. Breakfast was perfect in every way. The freshest of fruits, and the cooked breakfast was delicious (special mention to the black pudding that was one of the best I have ever had). The communal living room was warm and welcoming with a wealth of books and maps to read and learn from. If you need somewhere to stay near Oban, then this is the place to stay.

We had to change our travel plans at the last minute and were extremely lucky find a vacancy and spend the night here. The hosts, Darren and Karen, provide a warm welcome, very comfortable rooms, and a delicious breakfast. Added to that, there are stunning views from the breakfast room, and often creatures like rabbits, voles and pine marten just outside on the patio. With an excellent hotel and National Trust for Scotland gardens less than 2 minutes stroll away you don't have to travel far to enjoy this stunning corner of Scotland. Our hosts had an enormous library of guidebook, plus personal knowledge of the region to provide advice on how we could enhance our visit. With the delicious homemade breakfast accompaniments, it felt that Darren and Karen do go the extra mile to ensure guests enjoy their stay.

Beautiful B&B hosted by a lovely couple, Darren and Karen. Excellent location and Darren has superb knowledge of the area, describing the view from our window and the surrounding areas. Breakfast was lovely and with the same views over to the islands. Can't recommend highly enough!
