About The Cuilfail Hotel
Travellers after an unfussy, low-key base for exploring Argyll and Bute rather than a polished city stay will feel at home at The Cuilfail Hotel. Set in Kilmelford, around 15 miles from Oban by road, it's a straightforward option for anyone planning to spend their days outdoors and their evenings by a fire rather than in a smart lounge bar.
The hotel occupies a 19th-century building with a bistro and a pub on site, both furnished in a period style that gives the place some character. Rooms are simple and include family options with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi, and drinks available in-room. Breakfast is served, packed lunches can be arranged for the day ahead, and there's outdoor seating for warmer weather, plus meeting rooms and business services for those combining work with the trip.
The surrounding area suits walkers, cyclists and anglers, with fishing, cycling routes and walking country all close by, and further pubs and restaurants nearby if guests want to venture beyond the hotel's own bistro. Free on-site parking is provided, and 24-hour reception means arrival times are flexible. It's a plain, functional stopover for those whose priority is the outdoors rather than the hotel itself.

A hidden gem 25 minutes from Oban. We loved our stay. Simon and Yvonne were lovely and very welcoming. Good value for money our room was spacious and had everything we needed with a lovely view of the sheep paddock and flowing river out of our window. We were lucky enough to check in the same night some local people played Scottish folk music in the pub it was a Great night and everyone very friendly. If you want an authentic Scottish hospitality experience then come here.

Ate there tonight with my family. So friendly. Food was great and quick service. Proper home made Mac cheese was a winner with my son. Sat outside and enjoyed such a lovely meal with my family. Lovely salad with the food and good portions. Nice homemade sauces as week. Reasonable price too. Would def go back again. Very accommodating with my young family and kids really loved it.

We didn’t stay but, we had a b and b across the road. We were thrilled to find a traditional pub across the road that served good food. We had every night of our stay in the pub, eating dinner every night. We arrived Thursday, went home the following Thursday, no food served Sunday and Monday, so booked a table for 6.15 on Tuesday evening. ( locals doing music night ) Arrived Tuesday evening and asked for the table we had booked. Sorry, you will have to eat in the restaurant. Er no we booked days ago to have this table to enjoy the music in the bar! Yvonne the landlady got very stressed, called hubby who said…..Get out!!! Hubby said we have been in since we arrived, spent a lot of money every night, and now you are telling us to get out!!! Simon, licensees hubby very strange, not surprised pub up for sale. Chef is fab and meals are brill. No care about visitors, but, apparently locals won’t use pub Such a shame , don’t expect pub to last!
