About Pollachar Inn
Pollachar Inn is an eighteenth-century whitewashed coaching inn standing at the southern tip of South Uist, looking out across the sound to Barra and Eriskay, with the ferry slip to Eriskay only a short drive away. It is reputed to be one of the oldest licensed premises in the Outer Hebrides.
Bedrooms are modest and traditionally furnished, several with sea views, and the inn's bar and restaurant are a genuine local gathering point as well as a stop for visitors, serving straightforward dishes built around local seafood and beef.
Its position makes it a convenient overnight stop for anyone travelling the causeway route between the Uists and Barra, close to the beaches and machair of South Uist and within easy reach of the short ferry crossing to Eriskay and onward to Barra.
What guests say
One of just three pubs on the Uists. Great location on the southern tip of South Uist. No traditional cask ale – the nearest thing would be bottles of Skye beer. Those from the fridge are too cold, but the bar is happy to provide one from the fridge and one at room temperature so they can be blended! Friendly service (hi Barbara from South Africa) and great food.

We stopped in for dinner one evening. Service was very brisk and made us feel rather unwelcome, almost as if we were a problem as we hadn’t booked ahead. We were also told there was no lobster, but overheard every other table being told they had everything on the menu? Asides from the bad service, the location is beautiful. The food was okay, I wrote this review to help any other travelling coeliacs as I had langoustines and chips and it was a hot gluten free meal that didn’t make me ill so worth a stop if you’re in need of that!! They did check the allergen folder too when ordering so thank you for that💖

Only had an overnight at this hotel. Room was comfortable, the bed is amazing. staff are friendly and the food and bar where well serviced by the team there Food was excellent, as a vegan I am often left feeling neglected but not here. I would come back this way just to stay a night and feel the welcome that give each visitor.

Had a wonderful lunch there (non-resident). Beautiful view out over the Sound of Barra, with wind-whipped waves. Food was excellent, very reasonably priced, and great service.
